Please can you tell me what the black instrument on the far left is, and if poss photograph it?
Hi David,

Very interested in the reference to the black instument. You see my halftrack has a black face tacho, but no one I have spoken to has seen one before. Now, it could well be a replacement but if there are photographs of similar tacho's it may be original. If you could say where you have seen one I would be most grateful. Anyway, here is mine:

I will be getting an original white face tacho in the near future and can also post pics of that.

Hello Tony

Sorry I can't be of much help, but I don't know where I got black from. I can't find a pic. in my collection so I can only guess it was from a past life! (Unless I saw yours at War and Peace?)

You weren’t thinking about the electric trailer brake rheostat were you? This is to the LHS of the instrument cluster.

Tony

That could explain my confusion, (happens very readily nowdays) but if I find a pic I will let you know.

I have a question for you, i am in the early stages of making a new front axle housing for my halftrack, it will be a dummy axle just like the Armortek axle but it will look more like the real thing. My question is , how many bolts are there holding the two halves together, 11 or 12? I found many photos to work from but i am unable to see all the bolts to get an accurate count. Also, what is the object mounted on the frame directly above the axle housing, is it some sort of shock absorber?
David (Patterson) happy to oblige! :D

The Timken front axle has 11 bolts holding the left and right differential housings together (see reference G in the diagram below).

The object you are refering to is indeed the shock absorber (reference E below).

Hope this helps. If you need any more info just let me know.

Now my turn. Many of you guys are expert model engineers, and many, me included, are not. When you are making your superb extras/enhancements to your models can you make them available to the not-so-gifted like me? Obviously there are costs involved and I'm sure that many people would me more than happy to pay. Afterall, they will add value to the finished model. So why not put your parts in the craftsmans market and make a few bucks at the same time??
