6th Scale Icons Future and My Retirement

Post by Mike Stannard (toyrific) »

Hi Guys

My final post for today. The last couple of years have been in a turmoil as far as my business goes and it has not been a easy road. Trying to maintain order delivery, dealing with companies copying my parts, the economy, trying to save on my over heads by moving, the loss of my bronze caster to name a few.

I have now planned my next two years of business. The idea of moving to a smaller workshop to cut over heads was not practical, once I figured out the cost of moving and the disruption in business it was not worth while. My current workshop landlord has offered my a good deal to stay were I am for the next two years. Had I moved I would have only saved around $4000.00 in the two years. Not worth all the hassle.

I am now planning on staying were I am. I am 68 next month, my hands and eyes are starting to give out and I do not know how long I will be able to continue making the parts I do. It is hard even now to work on some of the parts I make, so by the time two years pass I might not be able to maintain the quality of my assembled products.

With this in mind I plan to make as many new parts as I can while I am still able, so hopefully in two years all I will need to do is order photo-etched parts, cast white metal, package and ship them. At some stage I will cease to offer assembled parts as I won't be able to do it.

My ultimate aim is to find someone that can take over my business, I will remain an advisor and possible parts master maker for a while.

If you think you might be interested in eventually owning 6th Scale Icons Inc., contact me.

Regards
Mike
