Which is Correct

Post by Ken Molchanow »

Just started working on the engine deck. I noticed or at least by “The Modeler’s Guide to the Tiger Tank” that the opening for the ventilation slot is in a different spot. Which is correct??

If I do move it will there be any clearance problems with the Turret.

Hi Ken.

I haven't made this mod myself yet but both Doug Pinkerton and Rich Stinchcomb have moved the slot forwards with no apparent problems.

Ken,

The attached picture shows the correct mounting position. The red outline shows the Armortek position.

It will not interfere with the turret.

Thanks for the answer guys.

Have to figure out, what is the best way to cut the opening out of the plate and then re-weld it. Will post the results.

Maybe this mod can be added to the “To Do” list before the next batch of late models come off the assembly line.

Ken

The picture that Rocky posted is the mod that I made to my Tiger.

Well here what I ended up doing to correct the position of the ventilation slot on the engine hatch. I cut out the entire slot and turned it around. I have access to a good MIG welder so I was able to weld it back together with no problem. The handles that I received with the kit were aluminum; I made new ones from welding rod and welded them to the hatch.
