G'day Ray.
I use Lifecolour acrylics using air brush.
Valejo have a very good range as you say and every bit as good as
the others like Mr, Hobby,Tamiya,Humbrol etc.
A lot of people get spray cans made up once they have chosen a colour
or colours, especially for bigger areas, usually from suppliers of autobody paints
etc,in acrylic or other types.
Hope this helps a bit, have fun with your Panzer build
Cheers
Phil

Hi ray,
i spray everything with etch primer first then primer over this. I have started to use army painter dessert sand spray as a base coat cover as the tiny tamiya spray cans would be too expensive. every thing finally airbrushed with tamiya dark yellow XF60. It takes quite a few pots of XF60. I got about 12 pots. I have also mixed some lighter and darker shades of XF60. i prefer to use vallego and think I would go with it next time. I think vallego has a little more green pigment in it.

Try this supplier
Maelstrom games uk
They ship worldwide. Postage usually free

Do not bother with the airbrush paints. The basic model colour thinned down is as good.

Hello Ray

For painting you can go down the rattle can route and ask the paint supplier to mix up the shade for you Or you can go down the Airbrush route.
For me the airbrush way is best as you can get the same shade of paint anywhere around the world.
I use a mixture of acrylic paints just tamiya (XF) and vallejo (Black top) range of paints. I also seal the work with a matt Varnish. So the tanks can run outside in the rain when you get cought out.
There is a bit of an out lay:
1 compressor Industrial
1 Regulator
Hoses
Airbrushes ( more than 1)
Cleaners and consumables
On avereage around £500.00.
The reason i use these paints is i ship my commisions around the world and so the customer can easily touch them up when needed.
Hope this helps

Ray

If you look at my Pz III thread, I've shown some techniques such as the use of filters and washes. If you want some more detailed guidance AK Interactive do a series of DVDs. Although they're aimed at the plastic kit fraternity, they can be used just as well on our models. That's as long as you use acrylics for the base coat and then use enamel based paints and oils for weathering. I would apply the base colours, seal them with an acrylic varnish and then weather. If you try to apply a varnish over the weathering, the results can be pretty unpredictable.

Regards

Stephen
