Tiger B 008

Post by John Clarke »

Hi all
Interested to know if anyone has depicted Tiger 008 from the 501 Ardennes Tour 1944. Want to know if anyone knows what colour the numbers are on the turret, There is some debate that they are yellow with white edging or just plain yellow. It's difficult to know with the pictures I have. :?

Hi John,

Nice subject. I've always been interested in the Tiger II's that took part in "Wacht am Rhein". In my opinion, after looking at various B/W photo's and the colourised grab below that the turret numbers were solid Blue with Yellow outline. As weather faded the turret numbers the Blue was washed off leaving solid Yellow numbers.

This photo, imo, shows the weather effect of the Blue washed away leaving just the solid Yellow numbers.

Don't forget to paint the "G" on the Glacis too

Thanks Antony

Thanks Antony for the grabs and still, Excellent. But I'm still not sure.
When you see model manifactures go to the trouble that some do to be authentic, it's difficult to call them into question. Yes they make mistakes, we all do, the outlines of the numbers on the grab do suggest that it's a different colour to the main colour was used. In many first hand statments the 501 during the Watch on the Rhine offensive used blue numbers outlined with yellow as shown on the captured 332. Yet the company Stab machine numbers seem to have been painted yellow with white outlines. They are also none regulation size Difficult to tell colour wise, if I pursue the scheme I would hate to give the rivet counters something easy to chew on. :? Again I wonder if any one else out there has done an Armoutek 008, Coz I think Armoutek KT 090 is going to get a make over.

Hi John,

Sorry, only me again. The above photo is a repaint of 222 not original. Some people now believe that it's number 222 was solid Yellow. From the colourised screen grab below I believe it's solid Blue.

Anyway, I'm now edging towards your way of thinking that 008 was solid Yellow with a White outline, see image below:

The 2 photo's at the top are B/W photo's of models with numbers painted as stated. From the above image I believe that the solid Blue is too dark in B/W to be the number used on 008 and 009. From that I think Yellow solid with a White outline. What do you think :?:

Thanks Antony

Hi John

Definitely white outline. :)

Can't wait to see your Tiger II. I'll be representing Jürgen Brandt's final Tiger #132 (he started out in #131) so very interest in your paint job. My Tiger 1 will be his Normandy panzer.

Here's a great forum thread incase you have not seen it already regarding the Tiger IIs, units and commanders during the Ardennes offensive.

Hi
Thanks for the replies. I had decided on yellow figures outlined with white.
The other day I brought this old issue dragon 1/72 KT from ebay as a nice desk top, and placed it on a nice plinth from the same company. I think they got it wrong, but its a nice display. Thats a great forum thread you sent Tim I'l start painting when the weather warms up a bit.
