What a plonker !!! have assembled both tracks in the house in the warm over a couple of weeks and guess what, I happened to look at the drawings and I spotted the 3 mm washers that I should have put in. I wondered why there were so many 3 mm washers in the kit. When I built the Panzer there were no washers on that track so I assumed wrongly that there were none on the Comet. Oh well that will teach me to look at the drawings a bit closer in future. Only a few more hours added to the build time. If there is anybody out there who hasn't started to build the tracks yet make sure you put the washers in !!!!

Hi Dennis
Nice job on your Comet,looks great.
I've done a few little mistakes my self but you certainly picked a good one
with a bit more finger work to put right.

You know the little "z" shape rope guide(forgot the part number)I have reversed mine round and a bit closer to the drivers port,after checking with the books and Stevens Photo's.
I think John has done the same.
I think it might have been that way round to stop the rope fowling the port
if it was to move back.

Lovely build Dennis....I had a set of fabric plasters on three of my fingers, after fitting my 'hubs' the wrong side of the wheels.

Presently my index finger, and thumb are 'numb', from assembling the mudguards....I had more screws on the floor, than on the tank.

All part of the fun.....thanks for the photo's....they are a big help to those of us new to 1/6 tanks .....mick

Hi Phil,

Yes I noticed that one too after I had bolted it down, didn't realise why it was that way round but as you say it's to stop the rope fouling the port. Will probably move it.

Hi Dennis,

You're not alone. I had built the tracks for one side and half way through the second when I thought to myself "I'm sure this would be better with a washer behind the cotter pin" and, lo and behold, when I looked at the 'other' picture there was one. So a 'pleasant' few hours inserting them!!!!

I also found that once I got all the weight in with batteries etc the tracks became slack enough to remove 1 link each side.

Visted Bovington yesterday as it's only just down the road, free entry as well and took some more photos of the Comet. I think there were more staff on duty than visitors. I tried to get some photos of the top of turret but couldn't get up high enough, should have taken my mono pod and put the camera on top of it and used the remote control. I haven't posted the photos yet but if anybody wants anything in particular then let me know.

I have just received in the post a Xenon Flash Tube kit from Quasar electronics. I intend to mount the Xenon Flash Tube in the brake at the end of the main gun barrel and it will be driven hopefully from the the main gun onboard sound output via a 5 volt relay. Have checked with Thomas and this is ok. A bit of experimenting will have to take place first with component values etc but I will keep you advised of progress. This system was originally described by Jim Fowler for the Panzer build but as the Panzer's barrel wasn't drillled I didn't bother with it. I won't be using his recoil system though.

I look forward to seeing your finnished system,I did the same as you,I
down loaded and printed off Jim's system for the Panzer but never went
any further.
But the Comet barrell is superb and crying out to be used.

New TBS5 has arrived and is now working ok so can continue with developing main gun flash. Have sourced a flash tube. Also a 4.7 uf capacitor to give me extra charge/brightness the trouble is they are Â£7 each and min order is 97 !!!! so don't think I'll be going down that route. I am not going to bother with traversing the m/c gun but will be using a relay and diode on channel 5 to switch leds between 2 m/c guns. Some photos of the build so far, paint job is a bit rough (it's weird how the camera shows up hidden blemishes in the paint) but will be airbrushing another coat on when weather improves. I have moved the fixing of front deck to 2 hex M3 bolts on front left & right hand corners as I couldn't get the bracket on the front low enough and base of turret was rubbing on vent, makes it easy to remove front deck for maint if need arises.

Nice Photo's of your Comet build,glad you got your module sorted.
I remember my turret just catching the vent but I forgot what I did,so I
have just had a quick play arround and my turret just misses the vent by
less than 1mm.
then I remembered I filed a bit off the base so it sat lower and more flush
with the scope covers.
Your Idea to make the front deck more easy to remove would have come
in handy when I did my MG traverse set up,it was a pain to get in.

Electronics now installed and tested. Had to solder connections to power supply as plugs fouled turret turn motor. I think I may have put the psu mounting plate up the other way but I prefer this as I can get to the on/off button easier and also my charging socket and kill switch. Had to reposition turret turn motor fixing bolts as they were fouling the top of the psu.

Nice neat arrangement Dennis
I can see why you altered the screws for your front plate to make it
removable easier,it gave you a lot easier access leaving them off,to
install your electrics.
I gently parted the terminals to go eather side of my Turret turn motor
it was deffinately a snug fit.

Hello Dennis, may I ask a question, for some reason over the weekend my display on my computer has stretched itself way beyond the screen size...for example I am looking at your photo's....only half the photo is appearing on the screen...I need to scroll along to see all of your posts.....I have checked other posts and the same problem applies. The display fits in the 'window' until I access a website.....then it suddenly jumps to wide screen, very strange....Mick
