Road Wheel Issue

Has anyone else come across this problem?
I was test fitting the road wheels and noticed that the very edge of the tire to the short hub is barely , I mean barely missing the hardware to the back of the outside wheel. Some how I see this as a future problem to the road wheels.
I thinking of shimming the long hubs out a little. Any ideas?

Hi Ken.
I'm away from home at present so can't see my Tiger Manual, but the obvious question is - have you used the correct spacers and axles in the right order ?
One spacer is 1mm shorter than the other, and from your picture, I'm sure that the centre of the double wheel should line up with the groove in the centre of the spacer.

Your assembly looks correct. You are also correct that there is very little clearance between the screw heads and the adjacent tyres. This is a consequence of the full size Tiger design being very limited for clearance between the road wheels.. Shimming the long hub won't help because of the nature of the bearing design. Look at the illustration on page 22 of your manual. Our experience has been, that although it is close, it does not cause any problems running the tank. If you wanted further clearance for peace of mind, the best action is to thin the heads of the cap heads screws retaining the outer wheel.

Hi, Ken!
I had the same concern as you and replaced the bolts with simple countersunk screws. I did not bother to counterbore the hubs, the lower profile of the heads was enough in my thinking.
I am not sure if this really is an issue though. When fully loaded, the swingarms become more horizontal and the horizontal component of their movement as they move up and down becomes much smaller, compared with the no load condition when the tires interfere both with the allen screw heads and even with the hub in some cases. This all seems to disappear once you load it down. I had a bunch of old lead batteries that served me well in testing this.

Thanks for all the answers.
I decided to follow the direction that Christoffer went and change the hardware, not that I interested in taking the road wheels apart for the second time but if anything I feel better, when its done. I have a few 2.5 mm button head screws and I need to purchase a few more. The button heads will give me better clearance to the tire then the caps heads do.
Speaking of Hardware
For everyone on this side of the pond, I came across a vendor today that has a line of 2.5 mm hex head bolts. They’re in SS, but this is the first vendor that I found in the states that has that size bolt. The bolts are listed on page # 1978.

This is what I came up with to solve the issue I was having with my road wheel clearance. I change the hardware on the outside wheels from the cap head screws that were provided; to button head screw the same length.
The other question I was having was the alignment of the road wheels to the idler and the drive sprocket; this was off a little. I purchased some 10 x 16 x .05 mm shims for the axle shafts and 10 x 5 x .05 mm shims for the axle ends. I tried a few different arrangements and found that 2 shims worked the best, putting the alignment dead on from the front to the back. It also added a millimeter to the clearance of the road wheels.
My plans now are to take everything apart and paint the base coat on the hull bottom, arms and road wheels: then re-assemble for the final time.

Looks good Ken. Can we have a side on shot of all the road wheels . Dale
