I know this is not a tank but it is a military vehicle. We were attending a Classic Car & Steam show last weekend and came across this one third scale Willys Jeep which according to the builders father whose full size one was next to it, is scratch built and has taken his son 7 years to get to this stage, his son is not an engineer but an artist !!!! Sarah I think you might be interested as if I remember correctly you own one. He has not built it from plans but copying his dad's jeep. I don't know what you all think but it looks a bit too good to me to be scratch built !!!!

hi dennis i met the chap wno built the jeep from scratch,a very interesting person, his skill was amazing how he overcame build problems, like casting tyres himself from moulds he made,every part was hand made to scale from metal,as the real jeep even down to zinc casting the diff, he did.nt have any formal training in metal work but just had the eye and imagination to do it i think you.ll agree, he gave me his phone no; to post some photos on here at my suggestion , so if any more info required on this jeep build i'll contact him,he is local to me, thanks dennis for the photos. regards simon manning.

Hi Dennis,

The 1/3rd Jeep is very good. It does seem very good for scratch built, but there are some incredible modellers out there. We go to some of the Classic/Steam shows with our Jeep (an M38A1, so a little bit newer) so I'll keep an eye out for it. Love to see it when it's finished.

What show did you see it at?

My apologies to the builder for doubting that it had been scratch built. I wish he had been there as it would have been good to have a chat to him. It is a truly remarkable build and as Sarah says it would be good to see it when finished but that could be another seven years.

It was at Netley Marsh Steam & Classic Show. Not many military vehicles there but loads of classic cars, commercials and steam etc. We go there as a Kit Car Club and were there on the Friday & Saturday as we were at Branscombe Air & Classic on the Sunday. We will also be at the Purbeck Rally on Aug 20 - 22 usually quite a few military vehicles there.

Also seen at this show for those who are interested, a one off Landrover.
