Starting my first build

Post by Adam Buxey »

Hi chaps,

I've started my Late Tiger build, what sort of fit am I trying to acheive between the various hull panels?

As at the moment I have a few gaps (maybe .5mm) around the rear panel are these "normal" or should I be able to close them right up?

Hi Adam

Congratulations on your Tiger! There was another thread on a related subject under the "Tiger" section of the board. Hope it helps.

Have fun with your build.

Kind regards

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the link, I had already read it.
I'm still not sure what sort of tolereances i'm trying to work to though, in my line of work we aim to achieve a fit tolerance of under 40 microns, doesn't always happen though... I realise that I'm not trying to get that level of fit but what is considered "good" in the metal kit world?

Hello Adam

These arnt Jet engines so just get the best fit you can get.My advise is to build it on a table that is flat an level then things will line up.

Hi Lee,

Thanks for the tip, I think I'm getting there now!

I stripped the hull back down and re-checked all the parts.
On closer inspection the floor had two small "bumps" on each side by the folds in the sheet, a small amount of filing got everything fitting much better, it's amazing how the effects of a tiny distortion get magnified further along in the build process.
I think I've still got a little adjustment to do on the rear plate to sort the back end out but I'm much more confident in what I'm doing now.

I had a look at the pics of your models, really impressive work!
