How I make tow ropes

Hi Guys
I was making tow ropes and I thought I would do a
mini how to do it.
So here is a little photo lesson.
First turn 9 mm stock to length in this case 40mm and add angle to one end.
Image
Then drill a 3.3mm hole through. To clear the cable.
Image
Image
Drill a 6.7 mm hole from the other end 35mm deep.
Image
Counter sink the 6.7mm hole end so the loop fits.
Image
I buy the loop ends from B&Q in the UK they are 25mm dia.
Image
pass cable through and loop loose end back into 6.7mm hole.
Image
Fit the loop fitting.
Image
Image
Hold the body of the fitting and pull the cable tight. I then
heat up the fitting with a small blow torch and fill the fitting with soft solder.

Job done.

The sizes of the fittings given here are for my STUG build but
I have used the same idea for the Panther the only difference was
stock material used for the body.

I hope you find this interesting.

Derek,
Great looking cable, I made some similar ones for my Panther. I have yet to come across brass braided cable however. I used #6 braided copper electrical wire available at most hardware stores. After you strip off the insulation it is pretty close to "scale" for the Panther.

Great tutorial, and thanks for the ideas. Lovin that Stug!

Hi Guys
The cable is uncoated steel 3.2mm dia and comes again from B&Q and costs about £1.40 per meter.

It is sold for up and over doors for garages.

Hi Derek.
Spot on mate...ha ha I came up with just the same method for the tow ropes I have made..."you can do it if you B & Q it" pretty good for spare belts for the power files too.
Cheers Paul

Derek, thanks for clarifying the material. It looks like brass in the photos. Kind regards, Bob
