Forpanzer for gun mantle

Post by Lawrence Godson »

Hello to all,
I'm wondering if anyone has started thinking about the gun mantle forpanzer. It seems that some adjustments would be :

Add in the scalloped bottom edge.
Make it wider.
Make it less curved.

This probably would necessitate starting with at least new main and side pieces.

According to a posting by Colin Fairweather on Dec 11, the mantlet shape was corrected on the second production run, so it might be worth checking with Gill if this is the case and whether there are any available.

Gill has now informed me that the modified Vorpanzer armor plate for the mantlet which was included in the second run of the Panzer III might be available in the future if there is enough demand for it. Would anyone be interested in this? I would be for starters.
Thanks

Martin,

I think the first batch were sent out with five hole sprockets and the second batch to six hole sprockets.

Hi Martin,

I guess yours is from the first batch as mine is serial number 77.

Hello Martin,

Another way to check for first batch or second batch is to see if the vorpanzer (the outer curved armored plate which fits over the base (mantlet) of the main gun) has a scalloped bottom edge. The second batch has this scalloped edge. the first batch vorpanzer has a smooth straight bottom edge. Gill says that they might produce a second run of these improved vorpanzers if there is enough interest. They probably have not worked out cost yet.

Hi Lawrence

If the Vorpanzer is the right shape and size then count me in

Hi Martin.

In a thread entitled "Sprockets" in this forum, where this difference in the number of holes was first identified, you will see Mark will make corrected sprockets available to anyone who requires them, so you should contact Gill for a pair of replacements.

Adrian.
