Just finished machining the 320 replacement track pins for the prototype Sherman.

The originals looked like this:

The new ones are from 4mm stainless steel stock. I cut them to roughly 70mm length and then turned them down on the lathe to the required 68mm final length.

I needed to make these up, rather than use a set of the production pins, as the prototype uses a different clamping method for retaining the pins. Plus the 24m of bar stock only cost about 28ukp, so apart from the six hours or so it has taken me to get them to this stage, they've only cost about 9 pence each.

Adrian.

I am glad to hear that you are making progress. Stainless is a good idea for the track links. The problem is that any work on the tracks is so repetitive. I initially put mine together in the lounge whilst watching the tv!!
