I am with you on making a crawler. I want one too. But I want a D-8 size. I experimented with machining the front idler from a cast iron caster wheel. They came out pretty good. The iron caster wheels are pretty cheap, about $10 each, but very inconsistent as far as rib and rim thickness etc.

very nice, and cheap too , i know a man that can make tracks! but he is very busy i think it would be a good model to build, something different i.e no one make Crawlers or dozers. there may be a good market in these, and quite easy to build i would have thought, compared to the tanks.
