Could I suggest a St. Bernard puppy?

They look to be about 1/6 scale, at least for a while anyway :)

Merry Christmas, Brian

(Sorry, I probably was not punished enough as a child :)

Hi Jim,

Just a wild guess but you might get lucky here http://miniature-dogs-cats.com/shop/ind ... 20a&page=7.
It looks very real. Worth a try

Thanks Guys!

A buddy of mine is wanting a Saint Benard for a project of his; he asked me for some help in finding one as I already have a 1/1 Saint Benard - Toby. Anyway, I had not a clue even where to begin. So, I posted here and a few other forums.

Now, I am thinking I just might get one too and make a 1/6th Toby for me!
Thanks,

Jim

I wanted to post all of you a short follow-up to let you all know my friend Ray (buddy looking for the 1/6th St Bernard) has found one. And, I am thinking about ordering one in the future too - would be nice to have a 1/6th Toby (my St Barny).

But, what I wanted to share is Ray has a photo of a St Barny pulling a rickety cart with 3 German soldiers in the picture - where(?) -no info on the back.

I never knew Germany to ever use these dogs formally, so I am assuming this is a one-off thing.

I just thought I would take a second to fill ing the details and to again say thanks for helping me and a friend out.
Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim,

Dogs have always been used by armies.
During the II WW the Germans used some 200.000 dogs for various tasks.
Tasks such as guarddog, messenger dog, transport dog, search dog etc.
I assume though that pulling a cart with soldiers was not a registered task

Ad,

Do you have or know of any more info on Germans using St. Bernards? I have to say that this whole inquiry has really peaked my curiosity on this topic.

It's funny when I saw Ray's picture, I tried to imaging Toby hooked to a cart.........Nope, that ain't happening......he's strictly management material (likes to lay around and supervise...and nap! :D )

Happy New Year!
Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim,

No special info on St.Bernards in the German army, unless you are fluent in German.
A nice site for you might be http://www.uswardogs.org/id43.html or http://images.google.nl/imgres?imgurl=h ... 8%26um%3D1 oops
