Build log started

Post by David Da Costa »

I have now started my Panzer III build log which I will try to update at each step of the build.

Check it out on http://www.scalereplica.com under the Workbench - Tanks section.

The tank commander turned up last night to inspect the construction progress

Making good progress with build and today stripped back down the basic hull and sprayed the etching primer after making some of the bolt countersunk holes on the hull side a bit deeper, light sanding and degreasing.

I have a few small components for the hull left to spray and then I will reassemble.

In terms of the next coats of paint, what is recommended for the interior? I guess the final interior coat will be some kind of gloss white? Before that are people spraying a red oxide primer?

What about the outside, red primer there?

I am probably going to do DAK colors as the final coat, but what coats are recommended under that?

Thanks

David,

You have raised a good point. I note that virtually everyone paints the interior a whit or off-white; I assume to mimick the interior color of the real tanks.

But, I am thinking of painting the bulk of my interior black - like I did the 1/35th models I built - sort of blackening out the deeper interior.....

Any other opinions or views?

PS - I like your helper David - Make him work to earn that ride!
Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim . Good on you !!! I was going to post this a while ago !! With my Sherman I have painted it black inside my turret Also I will do the same to my King tiger .. Like you and shultz ''' I see nothing """ If there are no inside detail in a tank it's best to be black so you see nothing ...I have seen some nice 1/6 scale rc tanks out side running and seeing the white inside standing out from 4-5 meters away spoils the look ..It's Good if you have all the detail in there and of course the hatchs stay the correct colour ....Dale

Good point Jim and Dale.

I think I may do the inside of the hull black, but may do the inside of the PIII turret white as it will be a bit more detailed plus with the side hatches and the top hatch the inside will be very visible.

The hull is now all etch primed and ready for the next stage.

As many have noted, getting the idler track adjuster on is fun, but with some patience I got them both on.

For a lot more photo's and updates remember to check my build log on http://www.scalereplica.com under Workbench - Tanks.

David, Just visited your website, very impressive. I notice you originally hail my neck of the woods in Bournemouth, I actually live in a place called Upton near Poole. Just started building my PZ 111.

Excellent David!

Another PIII build to follow. Looking forward to it. I like Jim's comment, make your crewman earn that ride. LOL

Best regards
Tim
