Does anyone have any of the following dimensions for american periscopes? I making one for my Sherm (in commanders hatch) and have good photos but no measurements. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks, Bob

Dave at armorpax does the periscopes in white metal and also the gaurds For the tops.

I have a vague memory that there are two lengths of periscope, but I cannot for the life of me remember why I think this or where I would have read it.

My 1943 dated Sherman periscope is:

6 1/2 inches wide
1 3/4 inches deep
14 11/16 inches long - from the furthest ends of the prisms.
The body is 9 1/2 inches long.

This is just the periscope part, not the sheath.

As Lee says, Armorpax do a periscope in sheath and with the circular plate already attached. I've not compared it to a real one but Dave isn't one to scrimp on the research.

Thanks everyone for the information. The price of the Armorpax version is cetainly reasonable. Does anyone know if it has the upper prism part included? All I can see is the bottom half of the p-scope. I need a couple other bits as well - wire cutter for the Panther.

Lee are the gaurds really white metal? They look great, but I'd be worried they'd get smushed easily. I was hoping they were brass or alum?

Has anyone used the stencils? Really like those as well, I'm not looking forward to making all the little number stencils for the Sherman.

The one I have which came with a Shermna is just the parts showing under the hatch, so from the round disc downwards.

John Grima at East Coast Armory does ready-made brass ones but they must be pretty easy to knock up from brass rod and a little silver soldering.

I have used the stencils on my Panther and they work great and are
very good quality etch Brass.
They will last a life time if you look after them.
The cutters are good too.

Hope the pics below help. I do make an open top section with the top half of the scope but its in the Stuart Hatch set, maybe I should do them on their own

Hi Dave, thanks for the great info. Are your dims off by a factor of 10? Should be 400mm instead of 40mm? No worries I can decipher it! I have Adrians dims for comparison. Thank you to all who provided info!

Dave how sturdy are the white metal periscope gaurds?

Derek thanks for info on the stencils and cutters. Brass photoetch will indeed last forever - I will run out of tanks to paint before they ever wear out!

They should be the actual size at 1/6th taken straight off mine, if I got them right .

As to the guards probably better asking the guys who have used them as I'm biased
