King Tiger motion Pack and continued build of King Tigers

Post by Paul Morris »

Hi Fellas.
Just thought i would let you know that i have just bench tested the the motion pack for the K.T. Hats off to Mark and Gill this is a much better set up than previously released, my son and i have just put the whole thing together in an hour flat  the three separate boxes are brilliant its now more like fitting D.M.D's in a Tamiya kit. So anyone who is a bit wary of electrics as i was, don't worry take your time and follow the instructions they are spot on  .
Tomorrow night i should get the electrics into the tank and i will take a few pics, fingers crossed this weekend should the the King Tiger running under its own steam

Hi Paul

I must agree with you, its very easy to follow, in fact fool proof!. Just plug and play. But, am I reading right in the instructions ......page 6, section 3, 2nd paragraph, "note the floor designed to carry the smoke unit at the rear and four 20Ah gel type sealed batteries (or similar)". (4 BATTERIES!!!)  i will see how long i get on sunday on just 2x 36ah batteries :?

Is there a battery change over switch or is it the case of changeing the leads yourself? And, do you have to realter the suspension due to the weight, as this was my initial concern, as i was putting 36 Ah batteries in.

Hi Paul and Sven,
Is the R/C transmitter (2.4GHz one) shown in Sven's photo not part of the Motion Pack?
Thanks!

Hi Fellas.
Well got the motion pack into the K.T. on Saturday and test ran it round the garden, as with the bench test the fitting into the tank went just as smoothely.
[Imageimg][/img]
The set up is not finalised yet i still need to sort out the wires and tidy things up, but this will do for now untill the next options arrive and i can sort out exactly how to place it all.
[/img]
The support bar that bridges the two panniers i think is a good touch and saves more room, i also think the oversize battery tray is a big improvement, there is ample room as you can see for the batteries even larger ones than i have fitted and still leave plenty of room for the smoker which sits on the end.
[Imageimg][/img]
Thats it for now but well done again to Mark and Gill this is the best motion pack so far and must be the easiest way to go.
Cheers Paul

Paul that looks real nice . Are they 4QD's under the new alloy covers or has Mark had all this new parts custom made for their needs ?? If so this is real good . Are they smooth running with no heat like the other motion packs ?.. Paul it might be a good idea to switch around your engine vents the bigger one goes aft otherwise your turret will hit it ..... Hi Dale.
No no 4qd's this time its all new, well spotted on the covers, the tank is as it was deliverd to me the story is much worse then that though, all the rubber gromets on the shafts wer fitted onto the outside of the tank there was no grease anywhere at all the bosses that you attach the motors to wer the wrong way round so you could not fit the motors every single bolt on the wheels is the wrong way round with the heads on the outside face and i have a bag with 375 fasteners in...now i think thats abit more than a few spares......the story will continue.

Hi Fellas.

After a bit of an enforced break on the King Tiger front its back to it...and how!
[Imageimg][/img]
The neglected tank in the background, the one with no paint at all is mine! ha ha I am nearly in a position to start doing something on it again .
After having to re do all the suspension arms that had been set at different angles and re doing all the wheels as the heads of the screws were showing not the nuts, I have now got all the electrics fully fitted including gun elevation smoke and sound, I must say the sound is excellent and the smoke unit too, is as we have come
to expect from Armortek.
[Imageimg][/img]
The gun elevation and turret rotate are both very smooth and I have found no reason to alter anything, "If its not broke don't fix it"
[Imageimg][/img]
A few more correction to do on the turret stripped bolts turnings thing around the right way etc and then onto the zimmerite.
Not really anything new to see just thought i would get the post going again.
Cheers Paul

Hey Sven,

Don't forget the Panzer III in the background

Wow, that is one impressive sight Paul. Glad to hear you've swopped all those little nuts and bolts around. I bet your fingers are a bit sore after that
