21st Panzer Division Pz.Kpfw III Ausf M Build

Post by Antony Rowley »

Hi All,

Finally got round to starting my Panzer III. I'm going to build mine more or less "Straight out of the box". As you will see from the photo's I don't have a lathe, drill or even a work bench. My build will take place on my lounge table and sometimes on my garage floor. Don't get me wrong I'd love to have my own work place with all the machines and tools some of you other guys have got. Anyway, I've decided to start on the turret first as from the instructions this is the "most demanding":

Image

Loose fit all the turret sides which will need a little filing and filling.

Image

Armorpax's superb split hatch aong with all the fasteners on the right hand side.

Image

Image

Some of the tools aranged in order of use

Image

My Dremel, a must for these builds.

Image

Fitting of the hinges and turret doors

Image

Extra detail supplied by Armorpax. I'll use these welds as my bench mark for all the ones I'll produce using Milliput.

Image

Von Luck's best mate couldn't wait to try out the new cupola

Image

Lot's more to come..............

Thanks Antony

Tony,
You don't have to worry about freezing your bajinga's off in your work area at least! Pauls right though, it will have more scrutny from the missus.

You're lucky to get a PIII. I look forward to following your progress. The PIII looks excellent right out of the box - amazing what a good paint job will do.

I don't get it. You guys are talking like dinning tables aren't meant to have Armortek models built on them or something! :D If it's a problem, I'm sure Antony has a nice, special, fancy table cloth he could put on there to protect the Panzer III from the table.

Looking great Antony. All I can say is that I am jealous! I would love to have a Panzer III.

Kind regards
Tim

Thanks for the comments guys, but please don't worry too much about the table as I'm going to sand it down and re-varnish it when I'm finished. I'll be doing a bit more to the turret in the next few days so I'll post a few more photo's then. I've also got to order some more parts for the turret off Armorpax which I'll do now.

See all the Leighton Hall crew on Sunday

Thanks Antony

A little more work done:

Image

Raised the turret bin up a little and once the holes are filled no bracket will be seen.

Image

Added the front lifting hooks

Image

Completed the front mantlet and extra armour.

Image

Image

Tightened all the sides and roof and all fits nicely. Just a little filing and filling needed.

Image

A few more parts on the way thanks to Dave at Armorpax.

Thanks Antony

Hi All,

Finally got a bit of time to add more items to the turret:

Image

Door stops & hand rail added.

Image

Turret door inside detail thanks to Dave @ Armorpax

Image

Image

Rear pistol ports added again thanks to Dave @ Armorpax

Image

First coat of primer really shows out how much more I need to fill and sand.

I'll let it dry then sand and prime some more. Next I'll add a little texture to the surface as it is a little too smooth IMHO.

Thanks Antony

Hi Steve,

When I first saw them I too thought they went the other way round but after looking at my Panzer III books they do seem to go this way.

Image

Does anyone have any ideas of what I could use to make the rain guards :?:

I've added the stipple effect with a large hobby brush while the primer was still wet. A couple of coats should do as I don't want to over do it. Once all this is done I'm going to add my welds using milliput. Any help on what I should use for the rain guards would be very welcomed. Thanks.
