Torsion bars

Does anyone know what material the torsion bars are made from?

It is spring steel if I'm not mistaken!!

I think its a material called piano wire which is a high carbon steel.

Thanks Mark,Knowing the material type was a big help.I have the suspension done.I use a small mill and a fixture to put the flats on the
bars.This is easier then filing,and looks better.

The transition from flat to the rest of the torsion bar should be gradual. A sharp machined edge could cause the torsion bar to break. The flat should be as smooth as possible for the same reasons.
