Good Day Folks,

I have managed to get the Panther G out of storage and on the build table. It had been sitting for nearly 20 years in the previous owners estate collecting dust and mouse poo (yuck). I am happy to start this project and will occasionally post pictures as it progresses though the build factory.

Bob - thanks for posting your long lost (now returned) Panther G, it will help with the build.

Adrian - thank you for providing the AT build manual zip file, most of the paperwork from the previous owner did not make it in the transaction.

Kian - I will be contacting you in the future for motion pack questions - not sure if the newer equipment is compatible with this 2006 model? Hopefully it will be an easy transition!

A slow start - but a start non the less.

Good Day Folks,

Not much progress that is picture worthy. I have finished the tracks and I am busy installing the 1400 dummy studs in the road wheels, labor intensive but good therapy.

I am looking for anyone of the newest Panther G owners who may have a scanned copy of the build manual with part numbers. I intend on replacing a few of the older outdated parts with newer versions. I would like to send AT a complete list of parts that I would like to purchase but my parts list is very much out dated. I can provide an email address via PM to make the transfer a bit easier.

Hi Dan,
The older Panther has single torsion bar set up. The newer Panthers all have double torsion bar set up. Are you intending to change out to the newer suspension type? If not the older set up works well. Unfortunately I sent my 2006 instruction book in 2014 to new owners - never to see it again. The newer Panther models have the pressed steel wheels vs the older style machined Alum wheels? Which are you using (prob older machined ones). The older design works fine and builds into a nice model, IF you have all the parts.

Thank you for the information, I do in fact have a copy of the owners manual and the original single suspension bar set up and cast aluminum wheels. I like the older wheels but installing the 40 dummy studs per wheel was tedious work over the last week. My initial thought of newer AT parts include both the bump stops, the exhaust system and antenna base. I am sure I will find other parts that would be a cut above the 20+ year old model. I was lucky enough to have a number of 6th Scale Icon and Mike Stannard parts that were part of this Panther kit. I will keep looking for a newer version of the build manual for the 2022 version.

Thanks for the update as well in regards to the Panther hatches.

Hi Dan, I can send you a scan of the new manual plus an excel spreadsheet list of all parts & qtys if you like?

the pressed steel wheels are a lot more work to prep than the machined alum ones. Lots of duburring, bolts to install and trimming excess steel. Either wheel will look and run just fine.

My Panther was towards the end of the production run and I didn't have to deburr or remove any excess material.

The sun was shining and the humidity was low today...painting was in order. A few snaps of the progress made this week. Torsion bars have been fitted but not fixed, a coat for the bottom, sides and road wheels.

I happily heard back from Monique and we are working on some additional upgrade parts and motion packs for the Panther.

Thanks Bob,

I used a latex paint from the orange and white store box store (HD), it is a premium plus interior flat called African Plain (S320-7). It is not a perfect match for dunkelgelb but I like the way it looks with a matt sealer. I spray it on with a spray gun at ~ 30 psi and it is diluted 50/50. It goes on very light with multiple coats but drys extremely fast.

Hopefully I will not be castigated for this choice! I also used it on my beloved Early Tiger I.

I was going to say Tamiya TS-3 Dark Yellow. Looks pretty close to me.

That was my thought too - Tamiya TS3. I think it looks great! Latex is a great choice - durable and cheap. Lot cheaper than $7 per can!
