81 track links

Post by Martin Donnison »

Hi guys, stated making up my tracks links. The centre link has a treaded hole. I assume this is simply a dummy screw that needs to be fitted. Can’t see anything in the manual.
Cheers Martin.

Thanks, I will check my fasteners bag, not sure I have that many hex bolts. This is what my manual says.

Lord, give me strength to change the things I am able to change.... and patience to endure the things I can not change :-) A bunch of Tiger and Panther variants, a few 88`s and smaler ones like Hetzer, Stug III, etc. and soon a Leo II

Hi Martin, if you look at the video of the fully built Leopard when it gets to the front of the tank there is definitely a hex bolt in the middle fixing of the track.
From the number of M3 x 6mm fixings for the track I would expect that there would be around 170 M3 x 6mm hex bolts (or something similar) for this position in the tracks but there is no such item in the fixing list.

I am nowhere near as far ahead as you are in building my Leopard, so thank you for finding the little glitches in the design be5I get there.

I have always looked at these construction kits as second generation prototypes, so one should expect little hiccups hear and there.

David.

The center connector seems to be split into upper and lower halves on the actual tank; that bolt is probably used to keep the halves clamped onto the track pins and help keep them from wandering off.

On the Armortek kit, since the center connector is a single piece, the threaded hole does not really serve any mechanical function and could be used for attacking a cosmetic hex head.

Hi the centre link has two holes in it with a centre drilled hole and taped thread. It doesn’t look like it does anything physical and is only there for detail. Thanks Martin.

Not sure if the hex bolts included in the kit or not.

Also please read Aaron Cheng's words :
