Point of clarification please. The front part of the turret has a recess for a long strip with a small right angle sections at each end. In section it is thicker at one edge than the other - which way round should it be placed? Thicker section towards the front or thinner section to the front?

....CEO425 Top Fillet. In photos of the Tank Museum Tiger the fillet seems to have the wider part facing forward?

It should sit with the thicker portion towards the rear, so that the top sits flush with the edge of the main body of the turret.

What you can see on Tiger 131 is a lip which sits slightly forward of this fillet.

Thank you Adrian, I know what to do now. I will also have to grind an angle on the fillet piece to follow the shape of the turret, mine has 90 degree sides. Just also used JB weld to modify the escape hatch which tapers the wrong way. All part of the fun of making these models. Thanks again

Very slow progress between work, kids...

So CPU out of cardboard box and bolted to the front so the camera can see out (without long cable).

Rough prototype of two servos for hull mg horizontal and vertical movement. Seems to be OK just needs a bit of adjustment to get full travel with no binding. Dad made me put in red LED which looks really wrong.

Latest set up inside the turret showing servo controlled recoil and elevation of gun plus the counterweight. Also general view ready for transporting south to be reunited with the chassis.

Looking good lads, I like the set up you are using. is that a lump of brass as a counter weight or just a tube filled with something.

Thank you your comments Paul. It is a solid lump of brass. As you probably know it takes a lot of weight to counterbalance the long barrel.

Was thinking we will need a hefty servo saver for when the barrel gets knocked.

People tend to walk into the barrels laterally, so most of the strain is in the gearbox of the turret traverse motor.

Small children do have a habit of grabbing hold of the muzzle brake, so a loud shout should do as good as job as a servo saver

Also, servo savers tend to be sprung, so you may end up with more barrel bounce if you incorporate one.
