Hello Mick, when you get time could you tell me the length, width and height of your battery. Also what amp's?

Hello Tom, the batteries I am using are two Yucel 12v 9.0 Ah. Sealed lead acid batteries at 12v 7ah are fine. The sizes are 151mm length, 65mm width, 94mm height. I guess there will be smaller batteries available if you need more space. I have plenty of space available in the front as I am locating the speaker under a false generator in front of the searchlight....
The 251 is coming together nicely. Once you fit the front end, engine/cab, side and rear panels, you can see the size and general shape.
I am enjoying the build, of the 'Lorry' as my wife calls it , more and more....

Hello Mick, question for you when installing part number CM0208 (Suspensuin Bush). The instruction show the arrow pointing to the O.D. (Outside Diameter) of part no. CM0208 for applying the Loctite? This is not correct right. The loctite should be applied on the I.D. (Inside Diameter). That way the Bush will hold firm on the main shaft (CM0209) and the wheels will move freely.

Hello Tom, I stand to be corrected on this however, my understanding is that the Loctite is applied to the outside of CMO208 as described in the instructions, locking the bush inside the wheel.
The axle part number CMO209 is then oiled and fits inside the bush...the wheel with the loctited bush inside will then rotate on the axle. The wheel and therefore the bush rotates around the axle......Mick

Hello Tom, all of my wheel bushes are loctited into the wheel, as Dennis said, otherwise the wheel will quickly wear out. There is a 'rim' inside the wheel up to which the brass bush is located. Hope this helps....Mick

Hello everyone, making steady progress. I am 'kit bashing' the searchlight, next to the light is a mock generator under which hides the audio speaker. Lots of room under the front end for batteries and smoker.....Mick

Making ready for top coat painting. I have kept the searchlight 'kit bashing' to a minimum, well within my modelling skills, such as they are. I am satisfied and.......as the saying goes, it's my 'lorry'.

Paint shop in full swing.....it's far to cold in the garage so, cover everything with cloth sheets, open bedroom (spray shop) window, have wife's hair drier handy. Spray parts, remove overspray with hair drier......buy wife new hair drier....

Looking good mate.

Hello everyone, managed to 'win' a couple of Dragon 'Crew' on eBay for my 'Lorry'.
So, I am now fitting the searchlight and generator, to the rear floor plate, all of which will be bolted down.
I decided not to fit both of the rear side panels at the same time, making it easier to access the electrics and add-ons.
The batteries are located on aluminium platforms made to sit alongside the motor. Following each installation, in and out, I run the motors and sound system.....just to make sure I have not inadvertently disconnected something....I also like to listen to the sounds.....
Later in the year, God willing, I will fit some sort of system to rotate/elevate/depress the searchlight...Mick

Hello everyone, I log on to the Forum most days and I have to say there are some truly magnificent 'builds' ongoing. I enjoy reading the posts and as always the photographs are the icing on the cake. ( do I enjoy cake ).
Ok, back to my 'lorry'. Gathering speed now, I have installed the speaker in the replica generator box.....and as always checking the sound system.....very tempted to turn up the volume .....

The SdKfz 251 crew decided to check the seating arrangements, before the commander arrives.
The SdKfz searchlight vehicles had a crew of four. So here we go.....
The Dragon figures are all strapping six footers.....as there is limited space in the cab area, the driver and radio operator became double amputees.
Infra-red searchlight, looks the very effective in a darkened room.....Mick

Hello everyone, here is a question for those versed in the dark art of electronics. This morning my SdKfz 251 (lorry) would not 'fire up' after removing and then refitting the cab module.....turns out that the spade connector on one of the batteries had pulled off the battery terminal.
Now, as the battery/lead setup is awkward to reach in the limited engine compartment space, to prevent this re-occurring, is it safe to remove the spade connectors and then 'solder' the power leads onto the battery terminals......If this is a no no, how do other builders secure there leads to battery connections.....Mick
