We have decided to come to the Armortek day so have been preparing by loading the tank with tools and buying a pair of steel ramps here:

Load of 200kg and just £40. The grips are quite sharp but we cable-tied some carpet over the top. They work perfectly out of the shed, we'll try them at car boot height later.
I finished off the side bins and we attached them to the mudguards: It was tricky reaching in to fix the nuts at the back. We tried to keep each bin away from it's neighbour but still a couple of lids foul each other.
Maybe from not following the construction sequence closely - it was also tricky reaching inside the hull for the mudguard fixings. We had a nut runner to get in above the tracks on the outside. It was fine. We found the left track was loose so tighten it to maximum adjustment but ended up removing a link instead. We have left 108 and right 109. Maybe I was driving in circles too much?
I was wondering should we join the UK Tank Club? What are the benefits? Do we need the insurance for the show and what does it cover?

The subscription to the UK Tank Club is £20 and you get a cracking calendar each year!
Whilst I find it difficult to get to any events with work commitments, I think paying a sub is worth showing some support to people who are doing something for us all.
However, I think the insurance is something really important in todays litigious world, running over somebody's dog in the park, because it decides that it wants to re-act Tianamen Square with your Tiger Tank, could be a bit of a bother It gives me peace of mind and will make organisers of events feel more comfortable if you have the backup of some insurance.

As with running anything in public there is a potential liability if you injure someone - a runaway Cent would make a mess of someone's shins, or a car panel etc.
The UKTC membership provides you with insurance against such eventualities providing you with security whenever you operate the tank and "Joe Public" is at risk.

I have the UKTC cover but am also insured via our local engineering club (under the Southern Federation scheme). The latter - at some cost I might add - will cover damage to / theft of the tank, whereas the UKTC is for third party injury / property damage only.

The organisers of some events will have public liability insurance anyway, others may insist that participants show evidence of their own cover. Bovington will obviously have public liability cover in case one of their heavy exhibits does damage. I dont know if there are specific arrangements or requirements for the Armortek Show (Gill, any comments?)

Hi All

Anyone who has not got there own public liability insurance for the day will be covered under the Armortek policy.

Conditions of this will be that any driving of the tanks will be within the cordoned off area, and drivers must be 16 or over.

I am sure that many of you will have your own cover, for those who do not joining the UK Tank Club is a cost effective way of getting insurance and would then cover you for other events and outings through the year.

I assume the UK Tank Club is still going?, the 'What's New' page hasn't been updated for a couple of years. I sent an email 7 days ago to no response.

hello robin,
try the BMFA, web site http://www.bmfa.org or email admin@bmfa.org, they offer liability insurance for these models at a very competitive rate. the only draw back it runs 1st Jan to 31st Dec, I think it costs £18 a year for non flying models,

Graham - I couldn't find any info on membership there.

We tested loading into the car, the ramps work fine but we found the tank rolls back and forth (thought they didn't do that). We'll have to chock it.
I had to drive down a step and after the tipping point the tracks hit the ground and the turret bounced out of the ring!, I was going very slow - honest.
All set for Saturday.

Hello again,

After about a six month break from the large scale we are slowly starting to get back into it. After sitting in the shed over winter I noticed a bit of rust on some of the unpainted bolt thread. Took the tank for a quick run around the garden and fitted the exhausts: I used Lifecolour rust paint set which worked well.
Need to get working on the turret, will hopefully have a lot more done in time for Duxford Military Vehicle Show on Fathers day in June.

After rifling through this forum for ideas I came up with this: I think Stephen White originally had the idea, I just used a thin piece of plastic and glued strips to it (after Paul worked out the barrel circumference using Pi )
