Fabricated vent cover and mounts...detailing done on foredeck...mounted periscopes...time to add some color

Mini forging ..decided to make the pry bar out of high carbon tool steel....the resin axe head and hammer will not fly with me...I will make new heads out of tool steel

Mark, yours build is one of the most rewarding to follow, it’s great to see you bringing new (old) skills to the Forum. I don’t recall anyone else making the tools as you’re doing. These traditional metalworking skills add so much to our hobby as they’re not beyond most people if you’re prepared to have a go. I remember being daunted at the supposed difficulty of brazing aluminium structures, until I saw a demonstration of how easy it is and having a go. The value of someone like you showing the way is that it gives the rest of us the kick to give it a try. Thanks for posting. Stephen

Made axe head and hammer head out of tool steel then weathered

Just need to weather hatches then add and foredeck will be finished ....then I'll start engine hatch and grill work

After posting the last pics the deck seemed to light to me so I darkened half...the camera doesn't pick up the huge difference but the 2 sides are night and day different

Added hatches...waiting on prisms for periscopes...

Since I'm using my top of the line JR 10X transmitter that is totally outdated now it is important to run the antenna for the receiver on the outside of the tank. Being all metal the tank could interfere with reception ...I'm using a ''whip" antenna made by Hayes...I've used it on my rc airplanes with metal and metallic coverings with no issues..I ordered a scale rubber base from FOA and will try to incorporate it with the whip antenna...a semi scale antenna that's functional

I was feeling a little "burned out " so I gave myself some inspiration !

Thanks showing two different shades of weathering for me both look great and seeing them side by side it's just a case of which one to go for.

Hi David ..thank you for the kind words...my weathering is actually quite simple ..time consuming but simple..I spray with Tamiya Spray Lacquer Paint and let cure for several days then give it a wash with Minwax ebony wood stain..I brush on let it sit for around 15 minutes then wipe off excess ...the shadowing is not airbrushed but Tamiya brushed on weathering pastels ( Tamiya weathering master ) I use " soot" for most of the shadowing..using a soft brush I find I have more control as it takes time to "build up" the depth that I desire... finally I give it a light coat of Tamiya flat clear to lock on the shadowing

I would like to suggest that you ditch that old system and treat yourself to the best state of the art radio you can get to match your exquisite model.
