I was experimenting for best result and scratched off several attempts. On this one I painted the front centre part of the lid with a 50/50 mix of tamyia paint and fine grain pigments. Then the surrounding area (the whiter tip area) with a medium grain pigments mix.

When it was dry I airbrushed over the whole lot then heated it with a heat gun so the plastic pigments became soft. I then rolled it with a wet (to stop stickage) small metal pipe to even it out and clump the pigments. The when completely dry I sand papered it all.

It sounds long winded but it didn’t take long at all. I’m very pleased, in RL it is better than the photos and looks exactly like cast metal,

By the time I finish the rest of the lid and paint it with a top coat it will be the results I desired
