You are on a roll Brian. Finally I can see progress in areas I have not done yet.

That crane attachment in front of the cupola is definitely in the wrong place. It's a simple mod if you want to do it. Just drilling a new hole for it. All you need to do is bring it back and place it in-line with the one located in front of the loader's hatch. That would be close enough.

Brian

As you have the turret on the hull can you check something for me? With the turret facing forward, can you open the driver's hatch? Just want to check if I have done something wrong as on mine the driver's hatch hits the mantlet when the turret is facing forward.

Fitting the spare tracks was really fun. I had to move the holes for the right side top track holders and I put longer screws on all the bottom holders then screwed the tracks down with the nut. it’s over the track instead of under. Now they are very secure.

It feels like I am on the home stretch. Only some zimmerit and then the real fun begins for me which is painting!

Of course I have to build recoil and elevation at some point too. And fix a leaky smoker.

Vince another problem you will find with the hatches, well the periscope really, is the barrel will come into contact with the periscope body as the turret traverses, that's why the real thing had spring loaded periscopes that folded around their mid section to avoid any damage!

Thanks for the info Phil. I did not know that.

So, is it normal on the real thing for the driver's hatch to hit the mantlet with the turret facing forward?

No no no Phil! Where have you got that information from?
The periscopes was done in 2 halfs held together with springs and folded for easy replace of upper sektion when damaged by schrapnell/small arms fire, nothing else.
The hatches was placed so the turret would not interfere when rotating, if it does so on the model well then there is something wrong with the model layout

http://tiger1.info/EN/Hull-crew-hatches.html
”This position was used so that the hatches would not foul the turret”

On the other hand on the Panther Ausf D and A the mantle did hit the opened driver/radio operator hatch when rotate but thats another story.....

Kind regards
