Thanks guys, next up add the welds on the starter plate and some on the rear of the hull, I'm probably done on the back until I get some access covers then I can mount the tools and other remaining details.
- Yesterday's progress, I finished the welds off today

Hi All
Not to much done lately due to another project, redone some welds on the back, had a trip out to Steve's last weekend and he kindly machined the inner rims for me so I could add the detail bolts, after lots of drilling, sanding, the job was done.

Hi Dave, stunning work as usual. Love the detailing on those wheels! However, it's such a shame that when this kit was released back in 2004 (or whenever and prior to Kian and Monique taking the helm) there was a serious inaccuracy inasmauch as the wheels only have 20 bolts rather than the 24 on later Panthers and all JP's. As I'm sure you know, the first production Ausf D Panthers had only 16 wheel rim bolts which were then upgraded with reinforcing rivets 'twixt the bolts to overcome in the field failures.
I'm fully conversant with Panther wheels having restored all 32 for Mike Gibb's Weald Foundation (previously the SdKfz Foundation) Jagdpanther. My 32 times tables came in handy when calculating the number of bolts, period type Nyloc nuts. conical spring washers and the special U shaped bolt head locking tabs which I had laser cut then folded on a brake press using a custom press tool. Here are some photos of the before, during and after stage.
Myself
- In the beginning - 50 wheels to make 32..
- In the beginning - 50 wheels to make 32..
, I am almost finished with a new build JP which is 95% Armortek parts sourced from this Forum, kind fellow modellers and from Monique's extensive stock of spares. All told, it's been a somewhat expensive way of creating a JP but the end result has been well worth it. Will start a thread of the build on this Forum quite soon.
Anyway, keep up your excellent work - you're a true inspiration to all of us.

Hi Graham
To be honest I did not know the number of bolts on early or late Panthers, your information is very interesting, and thanks for the kind comments, some are blessed with great talent, my skill is perseverance, 21 years later I'm still trying to get one together.
Look forward to seeing your build
Regards
David

Hi All,
Looking at David Battson excellent Jagdpanther at the open day I noticed a modification I had overlooked. I wanted my mantlet surround to sit below the top edge of the glacis. I contacted David to see how he went about it ...7hrs later it was all back together.
- Original surround position
- Correct position as illustrated in panzer tracts
- Surround was removed and modified in length and reprofiled to look a little more accurate.
- Original holes in glacis plate filled and repositioned 5mm lower to accommodate the casting new position
Regards
David
