Yes, that would make sense. Field mods were pretty common, assuming they would live long enough to make the changes.

Looks like it's coming along very nicely.

Did you have to cut your rear deck bulkhead to accommodate the turret race like I and others had to? Just curious.

Using a Dremel cutting disc, I trimmed off all those screws that jut below the rear deck -- I didn't want any chance they might come in contact with a battery, one of which stands upright just beneath the rear deck. I protect the battery terminals with added insulation as well, probably an overkill.

After reading that you and Vince had to carve into the Bulkhead I became aware of the issue. That will be addressed here soon. I noticed that the cad image on page six of the manual shows the cutout in the bulkhead.

The bearing hits the bulkhead but the bulkhead simply flexes our o the way i will leave it or bend it a little I do t think I’ll do any cutting here.


Unless something else comes up I think it’s fin as is.

Took off the motors and found the left side has some wear on the teeth. Two factors here. I ran this side without grease. Also this side pulls harder than the right side for unknown reasons.

Lookind through the hull there is a massive pile of dust resting inside the drive hole!

Will reassemble with grease and drive it till the teeth fall off.

That looks like the wear I found on the KT I have here.

Are those two cap heads below the level of the side of the hull ?

Also, is the back of the main drive gear still flat or has some been worn away ?

The screws are still below the surface. I think he metal dust is from scratches on the hull side plate. Here is a picture of the min gear before I put it back in.

The wear is less than the motor gear.

Back on track!

Basically back where I was before the Zimmerit.

Now the gears re greased and I got h biggest battery I could find lifepo4. I haven’t seen any other builds with 24v pack but I went for it.

I can’t take it outside because o snow but early indications are better power.

I was disturbed by the right tracks looking too tight during initial runs. Also I had ground the sprockets down and the tracks slipped. Now I got the new rings on and added a link. Everything looks proper. Runs on carpet with no slippage over the new teeth. I’m happy with the look now.

93 tracks with the idler all the way out.

Tracks look better.

I think I found the permanent battery position. Held in place with Velcro. It’s a tight fit but doesn’t touch the roof. I did have to grind the sides of the battery tray off so I could position the battery laterally and stay on the back side of the bulkhead.

Of course I’ll insulate the terminals to prevent them shorting on the engine hatch.

RE: Maine drive gear: I'd hate to pull my final drive to see it filled with metal dust. Something doesn't seem right. Maybe Kian can give his opinion on what's causing this. I greased mine before installing but I didn't pack it like you had.

Now, I'm thinking I should disassemble mine to inspect it.

RE Tracks: Tracks and teeth look good. The slippage I've experienced may be caused by too much chamfering, so maybe I'll replace them with a new set and chamfer much less.

RE Battery: Does the top of the battery allow for sufficient clearance with the rear center deck? I have the same arrangement but my battery has plenty of clearance plus I added insulation for good measure.

You might want to consider adding something to keep the battery from moving when going over rough terrain, particularly steep inclines. I scratched together plastic walls secured to the floor and Velcro straps to hold my two 12v batts in place.

I set up single stick elevon. Seems pretty good.

Hi Brian,

Very impressive build you have there. I have just been looking at photos of the worn gears and noticed that the large gear has cut deeply into only the front section of hull side this would suggest to me that there is something wrong with the alignment of this gear in the gear caseing or the bearings.

I am no expert these are just my thoughts, hope this is of some help.
