Ouch. When I saw your thumb without my glasses I thought it was a really crappy animatronic figure.

The turret wrap is difficult to close. Tighten the bolts only gradually and careful not to strip. I had to file a lot off the section into which the gun sits to make it move freely.

Duel purpose insulating tape; great for stemming blood flow, oh and ok for insulating stuff as well!

I had the turret complete, and like you had to do copious amount of filling.
But the gun didn’t elevate smoothly, it was grinding and was at a slight angle.
Others prolly wouldn’t notice but it annoyed me. So i stripped it down and noticed that one side had a slight twist in the wall at the front. The top lug that traps the gun elevation frame in place was not aligned to the bottom lug.
Now i have twisted it back with the tensioner the gun elevates perfectly. Just got to run a M4 bolt through to hold it in place.

Is that the extra Pin in the front that you used to line things up,
in your second picture?
That looks like a roll of black insulation tape on top of your deck
in the 1st picture,keeping the first aid equipment close at hand now

Could be an idea to scuff up the metal where you are doing your zimm just to give it something to hold onto.

Its no great secret I have put it on the forum somewhere I always use an old modelling knife and simply cross hatch the suface to be zimmed or a coarse grade oxide paper will do the same job, just to give the milliput a key to get hold of.

Phil. Yes that's one of the pin after filling with insta metal. I pinned 3 of the four lugs. The turret roof sits much neater now and the elevation is smooth. But more importantly the gun sits straight.
As for the tape, i need it a lot these day, cut my hand the other day. 3 stiches!!

Patience Bob. Takes lots. I like zimmerit. Prefer the yellow and grey though. Bit more coarse and better base color for painting. Probably cheaper also. Think happy thoughts.

Great blog - really helpful to a newbie like me - I have just recently embarked on my Late Tiger 1 (my first step up from 1/16th) and I have a similar issue re the turret wrap twisting away at the top of the turret front. I'm thinking I may have to try what you have done and "pin" through the top lug. Did you just drill and tap a standard thread? And did you go right through the turret front into the main part of the turret wrap?
