I have found that my red oxide primer from mission models doesn’t react well with loctite. It cannot dry over the nuts on these roadwheels and I’m not sure what to do. I am going to scrape the primer off and probably apply etch primer next.

Loctite is anaerobic, which means it cures in the absence of oxygen, so any excess which is left open to the air will stay wet for a considerable period of time. I doubt the primer will be a good enough seal for it to cure underneath.

When I was assembling the Mark IV, I found that excess Loctite 222 could clean the etch primer off the aluminium plates, so the best answer is to clean off all the excess before painting.

On your wheels, a plastic brush should remove any affected paint areas without damaging the OK areas.

Thanks, that’s what I was thinking of using. What is the best to wash the loctite off? Soap and water or something more like alcohol?

I think alcohol will remove it but I'm not sure if it would wick into the threads and affect the parts you want to stay stuck.

Probably worth testing on a sacrificial nut and bolt. Use loctite on them and, once cured, see if dipping in the alcohol affects the strength of the joint.

Today I worked on my ROADWHEELS and cleaned up my little studio. It was packed way too full. Now I have some elbow room. It feels much more inspiring now.

I weathered my second idler today (left) and used some new oils vs the first one I did. Slightly different effect but also nice.

I added some pigments to my second idler and now they are looking identical. I was concerned they would be too different but I got them matched.

The idler in the foreground is dry from weathering this weekend so I’m checking the paint out in some daylight. I am super happy with it. Note; the lighting is extra warm from forest fire smoke.

God I LOVE dunkelgelb...

I built a cabinet for my paints. I think I’ll need at least one more though...
