Did not actually get any time over the weekend to work on my Tiger.
I did today manage to print off a set of D shaped spacers for the glacis plate joint next to the diff housing.

They were glue in place so i hope i never need to remove them. I guess they would be easy enough to drill out though as they are only PLA plastic.

These have a 1.5mm groove around the edge so that i can add a bead of Milliput which i hope will be added this evening.

So, just a few tidy up jobs then i am complete with all the weld lines on this side of the lower hull.
Might start on the right side tomorrow.

Cheers

Been waiting for some parts and a few fittings but also needed a bit of working space in the garage. Still dont really have the clear space that i'd like but have still managed to spend a couple of hours today working on my Tiger.
I have now got the left side dif housing refitted along with the armoured cover that was missing from my Tiger when i purchased it.

I have also made a start adding the rest of the weld lines in place.

Ive seen from other threads the way that the filtet is fitted with 5 castle nuts so i had some 30mm M3 cap heads on order which arrived and then i promptly lost the packet. Found them a few days ago - while looking for something else!

Anyway, the parts are all fitted but i am not 100% happy with the shape of the fillet so might have a go at remaking them to a better shape.

I also fitted the new escape hatch hinge for the turret.
Mine was damaged and i had to remove it with Mr. Dremmel.
I was also wanting the type that was often fitted to the Late Tigers.

The next few jobs will be to complete the lower hull by repeating all the work that was done on the left side onto the right.

That should hopefully be a bit quicker now that i know what needs doing and how best to do it.

That will do for today.

Had a bit of a mess about in CAD last night and created a drivers vision port for my Tiger 1.

The vision slit in the front armour is a bit too wide so will need to be 'adjusted' before the armored visor gets re-fitted.

Been working on a few different projects recently, trying to clear the decks and make space to get back onto my Tiger.
Id also outsourced a couple of jobs that required milling and better tools than i had access to.

The majority of the work on the lower hull is now complete so i will be able to make a start looking at the back of the tank and working out what sequence stuff needs to be worked on.

I now have the turret roof and the cupola back now so that i can start work on the final few jobs to get those 2 parts completed.
The cupola hatch arm was damaged and the hatch was slightly oversized or out of round, so did not fit well so this has now been rectified in the Werkstatt. A new new lift post and handle were also fitted at this time.

I am printing out a set of cupola periscopes to fit the late Tiger 1 as well so this should be completed over the next couple of weeks.

Will update with some pix shortly.

Cheers
Tim

Been very busy this year working on my Panther and more recently back on the Tiger again.
There are lots of updates on the Tiger as the lower hull has been completed except for the rear end around the exhausts.
Ive just spent this last week working to improve a number of areas on the engine deck and gratings and more recently improving the engine access hatch so that it looks good on the outside AND the inside.

Someone spoke to me at South West Model Show this year about doing a Tiger 1 low relief engine like i did for my Panther.
I considered this for a few mins and then decided that it was well beyond my CAD abilities.
That person asked me again and i ecided to give it a try.

Moving forward a couple of months i have grabbed the bull by the horns and really suprised myself as I have now created an HL210 for the early Tiger and an HL230 for the later Tigers along with radiators and cooling fan units and i am planning to design the fuel tanks shortly.

The HL230 including air filters is aprox 75mm high and the HL201is a bit lower at 70mm high so should leave plenty of room underneath for speakers etc.
They are however quite a bit higher that the original Panther unit that i did but these Tiger engines are a lot more detailed.
Both engines are pretty well complete although ive still got to design a few of the pipes and other small parts.
The cooling fan units are designed to house a pair of 60mm 12v PC fans.
I am pretty pleased with the way they have turned out and will be uploading pix shortly.

This late Tiger 1 project has really moved in an unexpected direction as i was never planning to make an engine bay for it but i am now very excited to see how it turns out.

More updates to follow shortly.

Cheers
Tim

All the grills on the rear deck have been tidied up to remove flash and i then slotted the grills as per the originals.
Mark had already converted the grills so that the 4 caps can be removed.

Ive added some casting effect using Mr. Surfacer and then primed.

I have also started to modify the engine hatch on the rear deck so that it will look better inside and out.
Werkstatt brass hinges will make a massive difference to this hatch.

I have also removed the cross mounting point for the hatch vent as it is not correct although normally hidden.

I have desinged a more detailed hatch vent in CAD and will then 3d print whitch will then fit into the hole and will look correct when the hatch is open.

Just taken a few more pix to show latest progress on the Tiger engine deck.
Here is the new 3d printed armoured vent on the engine hatch. I still need to do a bit more sanding and filling to get the finish a bit better but not far off.

Ive also made an insert for the air intake as the opening looked to be way too big when compared to the Samur Late Tiger.

I will be changing the mounting points for the air intake so you wont be able to see the 6 bolt heads.

Here is a view of the ventilator from underneath.

I am really please with the way this has turned out and I think this looks so much better that the original part and the way it was attached. But, I guess it looks just the same from the outside.
I will epoxy this in place and then add some weld lines like on the original.

Cheers

Have just painted the first HL230 P45 low relief engine which i plan to fit into my Late Tiger 1.
This is actually the first complete HL230 that i printed. I think I must have printed the HL210 version 8 or 9 times before i got it where i was happy, but i than applied these changes to the HL230 CAD files.

The intention with this is the same as i did for my Panther to create a realistic but not 100% accurate engine that does not take up much room but still looks pretty good. This HL230 in my Tiger will sit in the top 80mm of the engine bay so I should have space underneath for the electrics.

There are a few more small parts to create but getting pretty close to completion now.
I am planning to add linkages, cables and pipes to finish it off before doing a bit of weathering.

I am pretty happy with it TBH and cant wait to get the engine bay fabricated and see what it looks like in the back of my Tiger.
