The ALL NEW Armortek drive system for tanks
We are very pleased to announce that we are introducing an ALL NEW drive system for our tanks.
Originally developed for the Leopard 2A4 to give us the speed and torque required, the new drive system has proved so effective that we are going to be rolling it out to all our tanks starting with the 2023 Early Tiger 1.
The new drive give us excellent low speed control as well as a high top speed whilst being power efficient.
Have a look at the video below for more details and see the Tiger 1 in action:

Like the new driver motors, they are a much simpler system with no gearbox.
It will make it more interesting getting the tank in and out of a vehicle up and down the ramps as there is no worm drive yo lock the transmission but has the advantage that if you run out of power the tank can be pushed to move it.
Looking forward to the Leopard tank and the options packs.
Regards
David

Brushless is the way to go, been running very similar since tank fest.
Jagdtiger 2020 number 40. With Gun Smoke, CO2 recoil and Driving on custom Brushless motors.
Leopard “ The Bear” build with a difference. Big power for good reason.

that new system looks great! Nice work AT. Should save about 10lbs (4.5kg) weight!

Cool! Electric motors work well with belt drive gear reduction. I have a 104” airplane that uses belt drive motor.
I see you are presenting it for the early tiger. What about the 2021 late tiger and Panther?

Realy nice konstruktion. Maybe it is possgle to transfer this system also in older models? Like StuG or Easy Eight?
Cheers

Call me old fashioned but there's a lot to be said for the worm drives natural breaking ability, control on inclines and low rollability on the flat while parked and the power is turned off. Choc's a necessity (preferably Mars or Twix bars) while on the bench.
The Tiger looks like it travels a lot faster with the new system than with the old, the speeds will have to be limited or as the old saying goes "The light that burns twice as bright, burns half as long" and I'm sure those out runners should be guarded
Humbug!

Our plan is to bring this setup to all our older models as well - with the exception of the Hetzer, half tracks and wheeled vehicles.Brian Ostlind wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 4:56 pm.......

Pretty much all our Tiger 1's can use the setup as shown in the video - for our other models we need to tweak a couple of parts but this should get done alongside the Leopard production.

Interesting.
What price range is set for this kit if bought as an upgrade?

Or as is posted in the parking area of a local boating marina, an admonition to all the weekend captains: "Remember: Slow and Majestic!"John Clarke wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 6:40 pmCall me old fashioned but there's a lot to be said for the worm drives natural breaking ability, control on inclines and low rollability on the flat while parked and the power is turned off. Re: The ALL NEW Armortek drive system for tanks
I have to admit to a little concern here. How is this new drive system going to handle going up and down fairly steep ramps into the car for transport? Without the direct gear drive, it seems like this is just going to want to roll backwards and freely, like an RC Car system. Does the ESC provide some sort of idle braking?
Mind you, I'm an utter noob on vehicles of this size, so maybe it's not a worry. I just know I can easily shove my RC cars around with the toe of my shoe.

Re: The ALL NEW Armortek drive system for tanks
Like all new systems there'll be For's and Against's. The control and power of brushless motors is far more sophisticated than a standard brushed motor system making induced motion braking available (while it's switched on).
The ramp business is a concern. I have had a couple of occasions in which I have been pleased the tank stopped by simply releasing the sticks and the gearboxes held the model in position.
We occupy an interest that differs from the plastic brigade, small plastic models don't have the ability to generate much if any inertia that our models can. They also bounce better.
It's great that Armortek's push the boundaries of technology, using this new technology, we'll need new skills and knowledge. Future tech may hopefully include servo driven motion packs providing more electronic feedback and locked motion braking.
Change marches on
