Museum at Quineville France

Post by David Skeldon »

Hi,
Visited the World War 2 museum at Quineville at the weekend, good little museum with a nice display of 1/6 figures and vehicles. The photos posted is only a small part of the display.

Yep, certainly a good museum and only 30 minutes from where I live.

Interestingly, a couple of years ago they dug up a Tobruk MG42 gun pit from its site further down the beach then moved it some 500 meters to embed in the museum's grounds. Not sure of the weight of this huge concrete lump, they hired the largest crane that could access the site and were somewhat surprised by the crane's weight sensor reading of 42 tons. No problem for the crane but way too heavy for the low loader summoned for the short move.

4 hours later and with the arrival of a more robust swan neck trailer, the lump was transported and hoiked into its new hole. A massive undertaking and amusing to watch from the sidelines!
