More painting. I have also started with the tracks, that will take time!
I was lucky, I bought a Lazy Susan form Ikea, and it was a perfect fit for the turret.

I got a bit bored while building the tracks, so I decided to have a bit fun doing something completely different.

Due to a bit busy period on my work, not much has ben done on my Tiger.
But I have managed to finish the tracks :-) I have also done other small tasks, but now (soon) I hope I will be able to continue with the main tasks in the build.
I have always wanted an engine model in the tank, and now I have gotten one. I would also like to have the fuel tanks, radiators and fans. I hav gotten a file to print the all those things, but it is in the wrong scale - and it's also in one model. I hope I will be able to seperate it and print the different parts one at the time.
I also really hope to ba able to fit all electronics and battery in the space left!

Hi Tor
Do you have a 3D printer? If you do then you have the slicer software for it. One can increase the scale of the model and make it bigger in the slicer software. If you were going to use a commercial printer, most of them will give you the option to upscale online.

Although one can theoretically increase the size of the printed model I am not sure if this will affect the final printed result.

Yes, Vince.
I got two 3d-printers. But I have never used the resin one.
I also have some software, I dont know if it's any good. The drivetrain model consists of abaout 1000 element, and I'm currently trying to find which elements that make the different parts. It's quite a job :-)

Hi Tor,

may I doubt in believing that you can place all the necessary electronics, loudspeakers and batteries in the remaining space? Our models bristle with all the necessary things to get the cat alive already without such accessories like motor, fuel tanks and so on....... :?

kind regards

I have calculated that the size of the whole fuel tank/radiator/fan duct assembly in 1/6 scale would be as follows:
  • 110mm tall
  • 150mm wide
  • 280mm long (front to rear)
For sure it's too big for the resin printer but might fit your filament printer depending on what size it is.
Your filament printer came with a piece of software called a slicer. The most common slicer found with home 3d printers is called "Cura" and it has the facility up-scale the model.
The drivetrain model consists of abaout 1000 element
What is that?

Vince

The model is called panzer_tiger_engine, and every part of it is called panzer_tiger_drivetrain, and it is 988 parts. I have managed to separete a tank, and set the width to 150mm. The size of it is then 150*89*123 mm.
I know that there is little possibility to get it all into the Tiger, but on the other hand, oddball759mm managed to do it, so I'll try. If not possible, I will have a model of the angine compartment. Let's se what it will be.

Phil Woolard also managed to squeeze in the engine, fuel tanks, radiators and fan ducts.

Hi Tor.
I’m a newbie here as well. I’ve just returned from a trip to Norway and it’s a shame I didn’t know about you whilst I was there!
Anyhow I’m pleased to have found a kindred spirit on here.
Best regards from the UK.

Chris.

Long time, no post!

Post by Tor Jacobsen »

It' been a long time since I posted something here. I must mostly blame covid for that. I didn't get it too bad, just a couple of days when it felt like a really bad flu, but after that I have been very tired and have problems getting up in the morning. I hope I will be able to do more work later this year.
I must also admit that I went to cat shows two weekends, and (just to brag; one of ny cats (a Kurillian bobtail) was best in show three of four times!)
But I have done someting. I have been looking at many fantastic builds here (and now I realle feel like an amateur!). I have been studying how I could get all the electronics into the hull and still have the model of the engine, fuel tanks and radiators, and mayby I will have to reconsider or make some changes.
I have managed to assemble the tracks, and I have also gotten the hatches (almost) finished. I don't have the tools (or skill) to make the opening for the loaders hatch bigger to be able to use the Armorpax hatch, and I modified the one from the kit. Not perfect, but I think it looks better than the plain hatch. The driver's and radio operator's hatch seems to be perfect fit, and I will use them.

Hi Tor,
Nice hatches, well done. Have you primed your tracks (with etch primer) or are they as supplied?

Hi Alastair.
I have just put them together. I'll decide later how to treat them.

I treat the tracks before assembly. When putting pins in I use a little copper grease so any etching / chemical blackening process would strip that out and could pit the pins.
