Brass Purchase

Hi, I'm new to 1/6 modelling and although my Stug is near complete I have decided to add a few details to the build. As I'm not fully familiar with where people purchase their materials, all part of the learning curve, I'm asking for the following information. I have recently bought the Armorpax tool clamp set and I'm advised to supply brass to complete the clamps. Can anyone advise me, on where, and what size rod to purchase? I don't really want to use plastic. Thanks in advance.

DD is the man to say but you should be able to tell the size from the holes in the parts. Use small drills to find the size.

I buy small amounts from either places like Macc Model Supplies or through Ebay.

Ebay tends to be cheaper as the postage costs are usually less, though it does pay to shop around. And brass tends to still be sold in imperial sizes.

My local hobby shop has lots of options, so you could try calling around to yours.

Thank you Adrian, I'll give eBay a go. Are you using flux on small parts like these tool clamps? Or is it always a necessity when soldering?

I would always use flux when soldering brass. Is that how they are designed to go together ?

I must admit I've never made any of the Armorpax ones.

Hi All,

1mm brass or plastic rod. I use plastic as its quick and simple but obviously no where near as durable as brass. The reason...………….my melting plastic is better than my soldering

I use Expo tools for most of my model making supplies. May be one to add to the black book.

I use small brass pins/brads. One end is already made for me (the pin's head) and a squeeze on the opposite end with strong pliers makes a small flat that retains the pin. Trim to length and you're done.

I do it on both 1/6 and 1/10 versions...

Another option, although more expensive, is to use bolts and nuts of the proper size. I was lucky that I had a good supply of these bolts.

I use 1.2mm brass rod for the Armorpax clamps which is a good fit. I use Eileens Emporium ( www.eileensemporium.com ) who do a good selection of brass rods, tubes and sections.
