An amateur building a Tiger.

When I see all the fantastic builds here, I really thought I shouldn’t post on this forum. But then, why not?
There must be more like me; building without experience.
A bit about me: I’m a Norwegian, 72 years old, a data nerd still working for a Scandinavian bank, I was fired two years ago. I was too old. Went home on Friday – and came back as a consultant (with a raise) on Monday. I also have many cats (Kurilean bobtail) and some dogs (Affenpinscher)
As a young boy (many years ago), I build many plastic plane set, but I never had an RC kit. I always wanted one, but never found one I liked (or thought I could control). By coincident, I found Armortek’s site on the web. I never believed I could afford one, but thanks to me being fired, I suddenly earned enough, and I ordered a Tiger.
I also have no experience with RC electronics (this will be fun)
A couple of weeks ago it arrived!

I had prepared. I have gotten me a table that could take 300kg. And I ordered a MC lift to get it down when (if?) it get finished. Then I have to drive it thru a couple of rooms to get it out in the garden, but this is not in the nearest future.

I have painted some of the main panels. I hope it will be correct (enough).
I was lucky today, I was in a shop (Biltema) and I found a thing that should be used to move furniture, and it fit under the tank. Now it is very easy to move it around on the table.
I have a couple of principles to my build; I’m not modelling an existing tank, I’m more like a free spirit and I want it to be like one could have been (or close enough).

I have been lucky, I found another building a Tiger in Norway, and he give me some information of things I should do different.

And if someone will tell me how to add pictures, there will be some later

Yes Welcome. I got a chuckle from "I got fired on Friday and got a raise on Monday" Sometimes we have to change (or leave) jobs to get a raise! Welcome to interesting world of big RC tanks.

Great to see another Norwegian here! There have been a number of Norwegian tiger builders over the years, but I think we have lost them all, unfortunately.

Thanks to those who wished me welcome, and from what I have seen here before, it seems to be a very nice and supportive community!

I tried to spend an hour in my “man cave” to work on the Tiger (in fact the whole house is my man cave, since I’m the only one here, except for the cats and dogs). But one of the cats didn’t like that I stayed in a room where she was not allowed. I had to give in to her calling after one hour.

Well, here is what I have done since I got the kit:
I have painted most of the big parts of the body. I have made a “dry run”; putting the lower part of the tank together without using Loctite to see where I’m wrong and to be able to fix it the next time.

The first thing I will do now, is to take it apart and put it together with Loctite (if my cats will allow it). When this is done, I will make a floor to mount the electronics over the torsion bars.
I will also do some minor tasks like putting together and painting small parts. Like the jack and fire extinguisher.

I also have some questions:
• How do I upload pictures?
• The front light. I have seen other lights that had a Bosch sign on the front lid. Did the late Tiger not have it? The lid also seemed to be fastened in a way that made it possible to remove it. Was that also abandoned on the late Tiger?
• Should it be glass in the opening in front of the driver?


As you have seen, I have learned to upload pictures!!

Christoffer replied to my build thread but I think it was a reply to you regarding the photos and how to add them.
In the section following the "submit" button, there is an "attachments" tab. Once you find that, the rest is pretty self explanatory.

If you click on the attachment button you will see another saying add files (max 3Mb)

There is a floor provided with the Motion Option Pack - this sits on top of the torsion bars to provide a surface to mount the electronics & batteries.

The Bosch headlight is Made by Steve Winstone - it is an after market part. You can find Steve and his contact details on this forum.

do your hull pins sit flush with the lower panel? or are they projecting from the hull? its hard to tell from your photos,and not came across any info regarding them?

your build is sure moving fast,keep going

Hi Donald.
I'm not sure which part you are talking about. Is it what in tha parts list is called "Hull Plug" (part CK0127). Have I set them wrong? Please advice!

That's the shock absorber mount. One at the front and one at the back on each side. That's a new addition. Previous late Tiger 1 did not have them but many people added them themselves.

Has anyone ever mounted shocks to their 1:6 tanks would it be beneficial in any way

Thanks for clearing this up,there is a high spot on the inside of my hull panels leaving the stud quite proud ,but flush with the inside,if that makes sense,but a quick de-burr on the inside and the stud drops straight in,thanks for this,as asking what i see as stupid questions will start to annoy more experienced builders
i have yet to figure out how to upload pictures from my phone to my PC so i can post examples

A bit more has been done, and now it's beginning to be heavy! I will have to ask my son to help me to turn it around, to start painting an detailing the bottom. I also wait for the option packs, to find what the interior will be like.
In the meantime, I'll start with some other smaller things, like the jack and fire extinguisher (and the tracks)!
No need to hurry
Don't mind the Englisman sitting on the shelf. He's for another project (UC)
