REME Model Show, RAF Lynham - 16 October

Post by Chris Hall »

Another opportunity to get some running in before the winter shutdown !

The REME Museum is based near Chippenham, Wiltshire. They did their first Model Show back in 2019, and it sounds like this one will be bigger. Although there's no display area for us in the Museum itself, we've been offered the Education Room for dry storage, with a large gazebo covering the patio outside for running if the weather's bad. If the weather is good there's a large grassed area to play on. And it's likely that, like last time, we might do a convoy around the Museum rooms.

The Museum, which has some interesting armour, an impressive gun collection and a medal room, also boasts a good restaurant serving English Breakfasts :).

Further details can be seen at https://www.rememuseum.org.uk/Event/model-show-2021. Please let me know (Forum reply or PM) if you wish to attend (ASAP please, as it's only 3 weeks away !) - suitable Public Liability insurance will be required, as usual.

Hope to see you there,

Chris

Just received some more details from REME, including the all-important breakfast options before the General Public arrive:

(the email address for breakfast bookings is Education@REMEMUSEUM.ORG.UK)

I've had a fair level of interest (both from Armortek owners in general, and the Southern Armour Group), but there's room for more if you're interested. REME don't need a list of attendees, but it would be nice to know what's arriving, so please let me know via PM. And don't forget your insurance ....

Best wishes,

Chris

Well that was a good day out ! A bigger show than 2019, with different IPMS stands, plastic kit traders and modelling bits and bobs that we all use from time to time. The weather was kind too, and we had a good running area - paved hardstanding and a big grassed area when the dew dried off. And bacon and egg banjos in the restaurant - what's not to love ?

Attendance was mostly the serried ranks of the Panzerwaffe: 5 Tiger 1's, an Elefant, a King Tiger and a JagdTiger (Ye Gods, but that thing's enormous !). The support acts were a Cromwell, a Universal Carrier, my Centurion (first run out), a couple of Dragon Jeeps and a 1/10th MAN truck. Certainly enough to have fun with, and to keep the public entertained. Some pictures:

Thanks to everyone who attended. It's on again in 2022 - 17th October. And we're clearly seen as a star attraction. Fancy joining us ?

All the best,

Chris

A good day out, with weather which got better :-)

A little bit of communal track bashing required but some of these tanks had only had minimal running since being built.

Thanks for organising Chris, and to the friends who kept me busy, fed and watered ;-)

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I was up at the Blackpool model show (Boat club) at the weekend. Spent a miserable 7 hours getting there due to the M6 north bound being closed at Stoke on the Friday, stuck between J15 and J16. It should have taken no more than 2 and half hours.
Blackpool was Blackpool, the Norbeck Casle hotel still reminds me of a time long gone.
This year there was only one metal 1/6 tank and a 1/6 3d printed Hetzer. The rest, being 1/16 many 3d printed many unque and obscure models.
The old Armortek Mid Tiger with a tamya Tiger sound system was driving round the show floor.
The owner said it was built around 2002 or before, some parts made for Armortek in India??? Never heard of this before. Would it be true? I believe some parts (castings?) were out sourced from Nottingham, but India?
Oh Man, I only ride em I don't know what makes them work,

Hi John
The initial Armortek Tiger 1 had all its castings made in India, turret, engine deck gratings, swing arms.
I well remember having to wait a long time hoping they would turn up.
Regards
Steve

Yes a good day, thanks Chris for organising. I had quite a few enquiries about the Universal Carrier. A lot of interesting vehicles in the museum. I also met up and had a chat with Sarah Frazer who was exhibiting her plastic models there. Our friendship on the Panzer 3 forum and at one of Armortek's open days back at Dunkerswell, goes back to my first Amortek model, the Panzer 111 back in 2008 through to 2010.

Dennis.
