Hi Guys
I am just about to extend the top edge of my panther glacis plate
to get the correct angle on the top.
does any one have a good picture or info as to the size of this? I have a piece of brass angle or L section I was going to use its about 6mm on the flats. This seems to fit well with a small bit of filling.
I can then cut through for the rotating drivers periscope fitting which I have moved forward from its orriginal place in the kit....
That's about the size I used as well. When it's flush with the front face of the glacis plate, it leaves a nice small flat on the back side for a weld between the deck and front plate. Once everything is blended in and vision notch for driver is there, it looks real nice!
I look forward to seeing your Panther!

Nice to see a zimmerited Panther Tim looks stunning!
A great source of inspiration for me as I am noooooot quite there yet
Any chance to post more photos of your work?
It took me a month of going back and forth..zimm-no zimm, zimm-no zimm until I finally decided to jump in and do it. Deck details are next then onto turret.
I'm modifying my Panther to be a early/mid production model. Working on a rear idler replacement still.
Tim your workmanship is outstanding .The zimmert is spot on . Plus your after market parts bring it up to scale. The one thing that is going to be good with this new web site is that owners will post more photos of their work in progress . Lets hope that we get to see some half track photos on the forum . Dale
I second to Dales words - Very well done Tim!
You will never regret you went the zimm line.
I will do a very early G so it is refreshing to look at the first zimmerited one - I guess more will follow now when they see how good yours turned out .
Hi Guys
thanks for the replys I have done it and I am very happy with the results.
Tim that is one very fine panther the Zim looks great what did you use Filler or miliput?
Great pictures
Rich thanks the shots of the real thing real helped...
Thanks everyone for the kind words. I finally figured out how to post pictures so I hope I didn't get too carried away. Glad to be the zimmerit Panther test subject. I'm really looking forward to seeing more Panthers on the forum.
Derek, glad it worked out. Makes a big difference to the front plate doesn't it?. As far as material, being my first zimmerit attempt, I tried filler, then I tried Epoxy Putty..both were OK but I thought what gave me the most accurate look was to use an all purpose Joint Compound. The kind used for drywalling. It's inexpensive and has a descent work time and sets up over night. Durability is still a question mark but it seems like it will be fine.
Rich, those are great pictures! does anyone else know if the front, top plate section on the deck is raised higher then the rest of the deck? I read about it in another modelling forum that it was thicker armor and your pictures seem to show it as well. Something else to add I guess.
Hi Tim
I just noticed your drivers hatch detail where did you find the information
as to what goes where?
What is the rod that hangs down on the hinge end of the hatch.

The front hull roof section (just behind the glacis plate) is slightly higher that the rest of the roof. It also has a tapered edge on all sides. I'll post a picture of this detail when I get home tonight.

Both radio and driver hatches have a hinged pull handle on the inside to assist in closing the hatch after it has been opened. Most photo reference shows them folded up onto the hatches but I thought they looked kinda neat in the opening for the photos. I still have to add the well around the inside opening and I'm trying to decide whether or not to do the spring-arms that help open and ease closing of the two hatches(waiting to see if Mike Stannard comes out with them.) I'll post some reference pictures when I get a chance today.
Hi Tim
I have both books and I think they are the best referances for us panther builders. I just didnt know what the rod did.as it didnt seem to be joined to anything at one end. So its a pull handle...Thanks for the info
Derek
Ps how do you post pictures ?
I cant find how to do it.
