Challenger 3

Post by Phil Woollard »

If Armortek are going to produce a challenger at some time, then why not the latest British digital MBT?

Thank God we can still build our own tanks, mind you it wont be the first time a German gun goes on a British tank. Centurion once apon a time was tested with an 88 I believe.
Buying British means you don't have to find space for the BV. Shame we didn't go all in with a plug in hybrid to pacify the greens

One argument against it would be that if Armortek did so and then ever did a re-run, there would be more Armortek ones than British Army ones

I'm delighted to see an investment in our armour capability but perhaps calling it Challenger 3 shows a notable lack of imagination. Some other options which might have been considered if I was still in the Ministry of Defence:

- BOND (well, the gun is a smooth bore)

- FLAGON (old wine in new bottles)

- MERCKEL (new wine in old bottles)

and if we have to continue the tradition of naming British tanks with words beginning with the letter C, how about

- CHAV (defined as "a young person of a type characterized by brash and loutish behaviour" - seems to fit a new tank very well)

According the Defence Secretary, the Royal Army can't afford having either too many or too few MBTs. Understandable.

Stephen, I think you missed the most obvious C worded name for our latest digital AFV.

THE COMMODORE
And if their any good we'd only need 64 of them in each regiment.

With only 148 being built & at least 26 being required at BATUS for the MedMan exercises, maybe Ca´canny would be a better name ?
