Mesh to Tiger One late.

Post by Robert Tanzer »

Hello.
Now I have a tricky one for you. 😉
I am looking for the dimensions of the air intake mesh on the Tiger one late.
I know they did a tighter mesh on the late Tigers. And also had a very fine mesh under the bigger mesh on top of the fueltanks. (I think)
I can only find some info on Tigerinfo on this subject.
But I do not know if it is right.
I would love to have the right dimensions because I will try to make my own mesh in brass.
If I dont find any nice to buy.

Have a nice day and stay safe all of you.
Robert.

Hi Robert,

Good to see some quality Swedish build here. :D
Keep up your interesting saga and continue post photos and text.

Regarding the Tiger1 engine deck air intake/outlet grate mesh here are 2 photos
from a barn near the field of Wittmanns last stand at Cramesnil.
”Liberated” by a local farmer, stored and survived to this day
They are all from one of the Late/Mid Tigers lost that afternoon August 8 1944.

Please note the still attached laces used to hold the mesh in place.
Indicating the mesh was not welded to the grate as they were on Panthers.
Also note that the wires was spinned. (If you recreate spinning wire I will be impressed for real.... )

Regarding the 2:nd finer mesh on the air intakes seen in some WW2 photos it was a field modification only seen
on s.Pz-Abt.503 Tigers.

Hope this was any use for you
Kind regards
Kent

Hello Kent
I did have a go on my lathe and tryed to spinn brass thread 0,8mm.
But no good results, the thread did only twist it self. It was hard to see the twist.
But try and try again.
But I am no metal worker so I have to test a lot.
I am happy to receive any input.

Robert

What do you mean when you say spinning the brass thread?

I look at the pic that Kent Wiik send , and it looks like the thread is twisted. Spun around its own axis.
