Universal Carrier Ambulance
Hi, This is my first Armortek model and my first voyage onto the forum!
I'm part way through building UC number 64 and it occurred to me whether there were interesting variations of UC. I did find a few pictures of an ambulance version and I have to confess to thinking I'd like to convert mine to an ambulance. Is anyone else doing any kind of conversion or modification? The photos I found on line show a UC with upper sides extended to the back and the vertical rear panel above the mudgards missing. Two stretchers then fit one each side of the engine housing. Looks like the drawbar is missing and there are a few extra storage boxes. There is also a version with canvas tilt but I prefer the look of the open one at the moment. If anyone has any further info or pictures of ambulance versions I'd be very interested.
Thanks.

Re: Universal Carrier Ambulance
Something of a post script but here's a photograph of the actual UC ambulance that the drawing is based on.

Re: Universal Carrier Ambulance
Progress so far on the ambulance conversion, side panels modified and first stretcher rails temporarily located. I used a bit of artistic licence on the towing eyes having removed the existing ones. Rear steps will be added and the stretcher rails fitted on both sides.

Re: Universal Carrier Ambulance
The ambulance is nearing completion, at least for now. I still have to fit the stretcher rails and some upholstered cushions for the seats. The drive train is modified and likely to get some more mods soon (see the post on modified steering brakes).
The green paint is actually matt green 'camo' paint from Halfords! The red crosses are hand painted and hence have a degree of wonkiness.

Re: Universal Carrier Ambulance
Looks very good Peter, though on this PC it looks grey rather than green ?
Where have you put the battery. Is it inside the engine box ?
Interesting to see the paint wear on the sprockets as well.
Adrian.

Re: Universal Carrier Ambulance
Thanks for the feedback
Colour is definitely green. You can blame the camera operator, white balance is set for sunlight and this was under an incandescent bulb
The battery is on a plate above the motor. Above that is a bracket with the electronics. It all fitted quite well. Speaker is at the front of the bay in a plywood box.
