Old Style Fuel Containers

Post by Vince Cutajar »

I'm just going to give it a shot. Maybe I'm lucky.

Some time ago I came across a photo of a triangular shaped German fuel container:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerrycan# ... nister.jpg

It seems that this triangular shaped container predates the "normal" style jerrycan container we are so used to see. I couldn't find a lot of information on this triangular container but still decided to try and draw it. Why you may ask?

I loved the shape, the fact that it's not common to see and the fact that the markings were still using the old style German fraktur font. Also another unusual feature is that the markings are debossed instead of being embossed like on the "normal" jerrycan.

I have been playing with it for sometime in Fusion 360. I even managed to find a font similar to the photo that works with Fusion 360.

There is something I am not so sure about. Does anybody know if the markings (on this triangular shaped container) where on one side or both sides of the container?

I suspect that they where on one side like the normal style jerrycan but not sure about it.

Vince

A photo I found of a similar one on another site indicates that the markings were only on one side.

Thanks for the info guys.

The photos in Mark's link confirm that the markings where on one side only (drawing has been corrected). Those photos and others I have seen also confirm what Sascha said; basically that there were many different versions of this triangular container. So as Sascha said, anything goes.

Dave, those containers look so cute together.

I am using the photo in my first post as my reference. This is my progress so far:

Looking at the image I just posted I already know what I need to change. This will be, just like the Tiger muzzle brake and breech, a continuous work in progress, where I occasionally go back and change or add very minor details, just to satisfy my 'alter ego'.
