Goliath Thread -- Who wants one?

Post by Robert Reid »

So I don't think I posted about a Goliath in 'this' year's survey. But pretty sure I posted about it in last years' survey.

And probably a couple of times in the Next Model thread.

For the record... the Goliath was the miniature mine-tank that the Germans tried to use on D-Day. And a 1:1 version would not be much bigger than a large 1/6th tank.

Per Kian's note in the newsletter... if folks are interested in a 1:1 version... start a thread and we can look at the project. I paraphrase.

But in the spirit of the FAMO and other crowd-funded projects, here is a thread!

Cheers,

RPR

I can see Dave Dibb already... tooling up to make little polymer 1:1 ersatz 'payload' packages wrapped in wax paper ;-)

Hi all
Just had a look at this in the newsletter, personally I would love one.

The HOWEVER, is, would it be legal on the Continent or here at 1:1 ?

Sorry for the spoiler but please, please correct me.

In Germany full scale tank models are not illegal if there is no functional weapon and if there is no armour in front of the driver.

Here a full scale StuG III which can be ordered by everybody:

And the full scale Goliath:

If you were building a collection of novel and interesting tracked vehicles which were operationally useless, you could add the Borgward to the Jagdtiger and the Sturmtiger. Presumably it would not be radio controlled but would come with a 108m long piece of electric string to control it. The simulated detonation should be worth seeing - where’s Phil Woollard when you need him?

So, Kian has stated to me over the last three years....that my desire to have them offer a U.S. M4A1 Cast Hull Sherman would be too expensive due to the cast haul. However, a model of this size, along with the material required to render those large links is now worthy of a discrete survey asking its customers if they want one. Really?
