Broken sprocket

Post by David Price »

Both sprockets have broken off teeth. I have checked alignment, track tension, etc. Anyone have any ideas? It has run on cement and soft dirt only. No evidence of rocks caught in the tracks.
Thanks.

Hi David,
Do you have a photograph of the damage?

Here is a picture of a sprocket modification done by Paul Wills:

Were all your sprocket rollers free turning and well oiled?

The broken part

Ouch! That has taken a tremendous amount of force to do that.

Dave did you bed the tracks and runing gear in on the bench before
putting a full load on and running it on the ground?

Send a nice email to Gill and with any luck she may have spares.

Regards Stewart

First, thank you for posting the picture. No I didnt bed the tracks. I didnt really think I needed to.
Gill has already done alot for this model. Because of her help its a runner.
I'll have to tinker on it a bit. Eventualy I'll order some new sprockets.
It gets alot of attention at our shows. I may have to get a 88 to drag behind it.

Stewart,

Looks like the pin came out which will cause this to happen, are the pins fitted from the inside of the sprocket when fitted to the halftrack as per the instructions?
I removed all the pins and fitted them from the out side, that way you can see if any start to come out

Nigel.

David your most welcome.

Nigel
Pauls fix stops any chance whatsoever of the pins working free.

Check out his site or scroll half way down this page to see his fix.
