Hi Guys
When I first offered the real glass optics for the Tiger 1 periscopes I was asked by many of you if I could produce them in plastic as the glass ones were out of your price range. It has taken me over a year to find a company that would make them and it was pure luck. I needed to get some sample parts vacformed for a new project and found a company here in Las Vegas. When visiting the owner about the vacforming he showed me some parts he needed to make, he needed 400 of them with a delivery deadline of 10 days. I recommended he resin cast them and offered to make the molds for him. I produced the molds over the weekend and gave them to him on Monday. When I visited him today he had over 300 parts made and will be able to deliver his order on Friday. I tell you this so you understand how I was able to get the plastic prisms made. All other companies I had approached about them were not interested as they were to small and the quantities I needed to low. While visiting him on and off over the weekend I asked if he could make the prisms for me and he agreed to give it a try, although it is not really a profitable job for him.
The result is I have some samples I picked up today, now these are not as prefect as the real glass ones and do not work. But they look good when fitted in the periscopes. They are cut from acrylic and the samples have minor chips, but these are not seen when fitted as you can see from the photos. These were made in a rush while I was waiting, more care will be taken during production to reduce and maybe eliminate edge chips. I hope to have some samples for the cupola periscopes soon.
I have offered to help him in any way I can in the future when he needs molds for resin casting and it looks like he will do other things for me such as vision blocks and short run vacforming. I have seen the quality of his work and it is far superior to vacformed model parts coming from other parts of the world. I have many projects in mind for next year making use of his company. The company does a lot more with plastic than just vacforming.
I would like to place a fair size order with him for the prisms, so I am offering a special deal on these until December 24, 2008. The prisms will not be put into production until the New Year,
