Original Tiger Electronics

Post by Wael Hazin »

Hello members,

I have a question regards the electronize fr30hx controllers and switches. I have an original 2003 tiger with these control units and I am in the process of rebuilding it. I am at the point of testing the electronics but not sure what modulation these units work with since they are old. I plan on using my Heli Futaba radio 18SZ. Will the FASST, FASSTest, T-FHSS or S-FHSS receivers work with these units? I would just rather purchase an older radio than have to change all the control modules. Please let me know what you think. As always, your time and effort will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Wael

My advice would be to replace the Electronize controllers, they are not capable of controlling your tank. The 2003 Tiger is very heavy, no weight saving was carried out. Armortek quickly moved on to 4QD controllers, and then in house motion packs. Do not replace your radio, replace your controllers with Armortek motion packs. The Electronize switches are okay unless you want proportional control of the turret and elevation.

Hi Mick,

Thank you for your response. I have few more questions, why do you think these controllers aren’t powerful enough? Is 30A not enough? And what 4QD controller would you recommend? The DN-5 or DN-10 which have 50 and 100 amp rating respectively? I have few different models I’m building and need to try and budget because of the cost. I’ve already ordered an armortek motion pack for my FAMO and still need one for the chieftain. I know, big problems I have. Lol. Again, your input is greatly appreciated.

Hi Wael

The electronize fr30hx is marginal on power for a 2003 Tiger. I also the power application not very smooth, making steering difficult. I have run on 4QD’s for about 10 years, and find them smooth and more than sufficient in power. Looking at the price difference between the DN-5 and DN-10, I would go for the DN-10. However, your best solution would to speak to Kian to find out if the current Armortek motion pack would be suitable for your Tigers motors. That would keep all your parts from one source, along with Armorteks excellent customer service 👍😉

If you want a pair of the original 4QD VTX 40-24 controllers, I have a set here I have just taken out of a Sherman model.

Hi Adrian,

May I ask why you took them out? Is it efficiency and/or performance issue? I’m just trying to understand all the drawbacks? Thanks for your help, it’s greatly appreciated.

Space. The design of the Sherman hull means there's not much room inside them, so swapping out the two 4QDs for a smaller dual channel speed controller gives more options as to where batteries etc can be located.

Hi Adrian

Thank you for your comment. I emailed Armortek to see about buying just the controller. I will let you know if I may be interested in your controllers. Again, thank you!
