Hi All,

I thought it was about time that I posted some pictures of my Quad build and seek advice on a slight issue I'm having at present, that being doors that spring open. I have not installed the door latches as yet, however both doors seem to spring open, is there an easy fix? Is it as simple as adding a thin spacer between the hinge and the main body frame?

Now the weather has warmed up, I have managed to under coat the main body panels and start putting the body together with some extra little details both internally and externally. There are still lots to add including the Armorpax kit.

It is amazing how heavy the Quad is at this stage and I still have to add the finishing touches and the internal electronics and batteries. At some point I will have to tackle the wiring and control setup, which is something of a mystery to me.

Hi all,

It's been some time since I last posted, but have made some progress adding more details, including replicating the external fixings, nuts, washers and screw heads. Also been working on the removable rear roof panel to gain access to the electronics without lifting off the body, which seems to fit well and will be secured via the top bolts and the spare wheel fixing. The only thing to do is figure out where to hide the on/off switch.

I have been looking at many references to ascertain whether the quad was fitted with a radio and if so what type and how was the ariel fitted or would it have been a mobile radio. Does anyone have any information regarding this as I would be very grateful.

Looking good Dave, those doors that spring open like you said just need a spacer behind the hinge mount or place a thin metal rod between the hinges / door along their length ( 3mm rod would do) then close the door against the rod and door post applying even pressure, this will allow the hinge area to ever so slightly deform/realign its self and after a couple of attempts the doors should close nicely. A slight spring is good as this keeps the door locks tight and so stay closed when operating at shows.
Ref the radio, I believe it would have been a portable job in just one vehicle of the troop, the command vehicle, the orders being shouted between the tractors in the field and as we all know all gunners need to be shouted at very loudly for obvious reasons!

Thanks Phil for the answers to my queries and I think I will place a thin shim under the hinge rather than trying to ease the side. I will also try an research the radio type to replicate it as a mobile unit.

Hi All,

Don't you just love the warm summer days, perfect for adding some colour to the bare metal and you get the sense of things to come and the vision of the final colour. Finished and painted the chassis with a few extra bits. I will now turn my full attention to the body with the plan to complete before the end of the warm dry summer weather (normally 3 days), which then gives me the autumn to complete the electrics and weathering.

Hello All,

Firstly, I sincerely hope that during this Coronavirus lockdown you and your families are staying safe and well.

Secondly, I have made some progress on the Quad thanks to the very unusual hot weather over the Easter holidays. I have focused on the interior adding colour and more details. I am making decals for the dials based upon photos found on the internet. I added pedals from the Dragon Jeep kit. I am considering what weathering I need to do the interior and whether this will be a well used vehicle or one that is relatively new on the battle field as this will impact on the overall effect of the Quad, limber and 25 ponder.

Next will be adding the exterior panels for the last time before adding the hatch doors, roof detail, etc.

Started looking at the wiring and seems fairly simple although haven't tried setting the controls yet. Not much room in the rear for all the modules, smoke and batteries.

Good evening all,

Interior done and external panels added. Starting to add the external details with the side hatches at the rear and now working on the additional detailing to the rear and roof. Once I have completed this I can start adding the colour to the exterior and finally the weathering.

I have never built a Quad but Im building another model and had the same issue with the doors/hatches, when you shim it keep in mind that paint on the body and hinge will add to this issue, my hinges were good, then I painted and they no longer worked till it rubbed the paint away, on the remaining hinges I removed some material until they had a little extra operating room, hope yours works out, enjoy.

Hi all,

Just a quick up date. Finished the rear details, although just have to add the bolt detail. Moving on to the roof next before the weather warms and dries up so I can complete the paint and weathering. Should have the Quad finished before the end of the summer, then need to weather the Limber and complete the 25pounder to complete the set for show later this year, if we are able to attend events by then.

Thanks for the kind comment.

I would suggest, but happy to be corrected, that this lifts the 25ponder ground ring off the guides. As I think the Quad could carry the ring on the roof, however not sure how they got it up there in the first place as I would imagine that it would be a heavy piece of kit.

Hi All,

Just completed the 25pounder ring roof support/clamp, which was very intricate but very enjoyable. Just need to order some more fixing bolts the right size and the push handle. Not too much more to do now with regards the build only the final small details such as the mirrors and wipers.
