Hi Stephen,

I have been talking to our suppliers this week about resin options but supply at present is a little challenging. If I can find a cost effective clear resin in small enough quantities that casts quickly enough will give it a go but can't afford to have resins sitting around past shelf life.

Best regards

I used some clear 5-minute epoxy to make lenses for sights, etc.

I also used a piece of German Silver, highly polished and then clear-laquered to simulate a prism lens. A small piece of stainless would work even better, as it would not tarnish over time.

Both worked well!

Also, one of the nice things about Dave's parts is that they are modifications that are ripe for modification! I have only seen pictures of the sight here and on Dave FB page... But as I look at it, I think that with a small X-acto saw blade, you can cut the resin out of the center of the sight, leaving the frame. And fit in a piece of polystyrene clear into it. White metal parts are even nicer to work with a jewelers wire saw... the white metal cuts beautifully (and machines beautifully) leaving you a nice metal frame that you can fit a window in.

Never feel you have to stop at modifying Armortek kits! Dave's parts also make fantastic foundations for even more modification!

Cheers,

RPR

Hi All,

Firstly my thanks to Vince who came up trumps with the searchlight bowl. With his excellent recreation of my hastily drawn sketch the end of this assembly is now well and truly in sight.

I had a couple of slightly different sizes printed by Shapeways as without being able to get anywhere to take dims I guessed a bit at the size. The one drawn based on my dims is actually the one I'm going with. Shapeways have turned this round faster than anything I have ordered before and I will be detailing in the next few days now rather than the couple of weeks I expected.

Thanks again Vince and sorry Phil, nothing personal but wanted the finish I get from Shapeways fine detail plastic parts.

Best regards

Dave

Hi All,

Its done, thank you to Vince for the bowl .stl otherwise I'd be nowhere near finished yet. All the parts going off for cold cure metal moulds next week when I do our post and shopping trip. These will be available as soon as we have the moulds made and tuned. Searchlight has been done with a dummy bulb plate so you can ditch this and add an LED if you want to make it work.

Thank you all for your interest and help on these parts and of course the orders we have already had.

On to the next project.

Best regards

Dave
