Chieftain spring unit
Does anyone thinks that the spring unit is a bit short? As when the suspension is off the ground the spring unit would just drop out of position.

Re: Chieftain spring unit
Hi Manny, the spring is the correct length.
When the tank is raised for maintenance or storage you can use a rubber band or string to keep the spring in place and simply remove this once the tank is sitting on its suspension again.

Re: Chieftain spring unit
While pondering over the Chieftains front end, I've had a little thought about the suspension units and the problems with them.
The ability of them to fall apart if not tied up, wedged up or under tension from the tracks.
So I came up with this. I've extended the length of the tie bar between the springs by 8mm, this is just enough to keep a little tension on the springs. then I added and glued a rubber bock to each of the swing arm stops. This lifts the swing arms and gently puts pressure on the spring unit.
Job done.
I can now lift the tank off the deck without having to add anything. I know it's not a scale thing, more of an engineering necessity. Look Mom No Bands!
